Oh how the IL's drive me crazy...let me count the ways...
The newest, and most entertaining story has just officially unfolded. DH told me last week that his parents booked a trip for this week to go to Florida until Sept. 1st. I am due Sept. 5th, but it obviously could happen any day. Needless to say, DH and I have not been happy about this. They go to Florida every month to their house down there. They aren't missing anything! This is their first grandchild!!!! DH talked to them about cancelling the trip but they insisted on going. In fact, they both said "all first time babies come late. She won't have the baby early." When did they get their obstetrical degree?
They left about a half hour ago and they don't come back until Monday.
Is it terrible that I spitefully wish the baby would come this week so that we can call them and they have to rush back home???

 That is cutting it a little close for my taste.
My parents booked a cruise 16 days after the day I am due. But got insurance, just in case.

They are being selfish, to be honest. They so should have stayed home this one time. I DO HOPE you go into labor this week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IL's can be so annoying.

They aren't even my family and i've been wishing for this baby to come while they are in Florida since you guys told me they were going!!!
That'd be a nice little silent retribution after that untimely "announcement" at your shower

That's just terrible. I would be seriously ticked off if either my IL's or parents did such a thing. I agree with you though..........it would be great if the baby came early just on principle. You know what though, you can't control other people's actions so my advice is to not sweat it too much because you can't change anything and you're at a point right now in your pregnancy where you should be relaxed and happy and excited. Don't let their stupid decision ruin the most amazing time in your life!!

wow. i would be so hurt if my ILs did that - mainly because my DH would be hurt and how dare they hurt my DH!!

Every time I think I can figure them out, they do something that throws me for a loop. The thing that is killing me is that they might miss the moment when DH walks out of the delivery room and announces that Baby G was born! I feel terrible for DH!!
It's not like this was a once in a lifetime trip either. They go almost every month. They cancelled their September trip at DH's request just in case the baby came late. And, they are going for a week or so the first week of October. I just can't figure them out.

I will tell you, it CAN happen!
My inlaws went to FL in the beginning of Jan (07). My due date was Jan. 26th.
Low and behold, my water broke and DS was born on Jan. 15th.
My inlaws left for FL on the 13th. They were very hesitant to go, but, they thought the same thing (Heck, even *I* thought I was going late), but, you just never know!
I did feel bad for DH that his parents missed it, but, as soon as there plane landed they were there for us.
