Obama's new stimulus plan
Can someone explain to me how putting billions of dollars towards STD education is going to create jobs or stimulate our economy and keep us from going into a depression?  I heard this on ABC news last night. Someone tell me I heard wrong?

The problem with this stimulus plan was that everything was packed together in it. it was labelled as a stimulus plan, but only a small percentage was put towards the actual "stimulus".

to answer the OP, they are not putting billions of dollars towards STD education.
it calls for 335 million as PART of a preventative health care initiative.
and you know that saying, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. 
here is another take. not sure exactly how partisan this website is...but fact check didn't have anything up yet.

I am not really sure either.
but lots of crazy stuff gets heaped into these bills by both sides.
it's VERY annoying, I agree...but it's how Congress "rocks the vote" 
I STILL think it's a good initiative and "stimulus" notwithstanding, it does make sense.

There are a few things in that plan that really makes me 
but, on the flip-side, not everything that's considered 'pork' is really pork KWIM?
I heard a republican congressman go on about how NASA and NOA were getting something like 400 million to research climate change and something else... they called it pork.
well, as a medical researcher, I'd like to think I'm not pork. the bush admin had a rather adverse relationship with scientists and basically kept federal funding to the bare bones... as a result of the lack of funding, many of my peers have either left science all together, or are hanging by their fingernails...
federal grants to study health, alternative energy sources, and other topics are desperately needed. if there isn't a huge cash influx for the research community, we may atrophy beyond the point of resuscitation.

thank you! only 30% is actually going to the taxpayers, the rest is a SPENDING plan. they really should just call it that instead of a stimuls plan! it is FULL of pork barrel spending. they have money in there to help people stop smoking for god's sakes! (while that would be agood thing, this is supposed to help the ECONOMY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) it's ridiculous... and the subsequent generations and us will be paying for this.... we have some real idiots down there... oh, we have no money... let's borrow another TRILLION dollars!?!!???? how does this make sense? inflation is going to come fast and furious and the dollar is going to be even more useless internationally.

i understand that, but then say it's a bill for that purpose. (or whatever other cause or issue) they mislead us and say it's stimulus package or this or that when it's really not. it's just a sneaky way for stupid politicians and lobbyists to make money and get re-elected by their well connected and monied constituents.

Is anyone not surprised by this?
I saw this coming miles away. Once you put a Democrat in the White House with a Democratic congress, the president can pretty much do whatever he wants.
We shall see where this "stimulus" plan goes so I won't pass judgement yet.
All I know is if this backfires on Obama and the economy ends up being worse than it is now, he won't last past four years.
