O-M-G This year it's FLYING ANTS!!!!
I am so disgusted!! arghhhhhhhhhhhh
For the last few years we've had ants in our basement and a few in our kitchen. They were the black carpenter ants. We had an exterminator come for the last 3 years and DH put some pellets outside which totally helped last year.
Now this year. Picture this...we're eating dinner at the table and a 747 flying ant jet bang! lands right on top of the newspaper (out of nowhere!!) 2 seconds later DH kills it. I'm freaked. I continue to eat. A brown paper bag is next to me. I'm eating my salad and then 747 flying ant smashes right into the paper bag with a thud! sound and I screamed bloody murder!
We have flying ants and I am soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo grosssssssssssssed out! If it's not one thing it's another.
A few weeks ago we had the exterminators come and they sprayed for the ants.
This is the first year we're seeing flying ants. They are so freaking gross - not only do I hate ants that crawl but I cannot tolerate ants that fly out of nowhere!
I can't go into the kitchen - I'm so scared!
We also found some dead ones on the floor here and there that I guess we didn't notice earlier.
I have no idea where they are coming from.

are you sure they are ants? when termites swarm they have wings and then they fall off.
Ants do the same thing when they swarm - they have wings, fly to a new place, and then the wings fall off.
If the bug has three distinct body parts, its an ant. If it looks like one long body, its a termite.

Are you sure they are ants? We were just attacked by a termite swarm in our house - they look like ants, but they have wings which fall off. Like the PP said, check their bodies. If it's a termite swarm it will be done with in a few hours or a day and then you will be like me just finding random wings around the house.
It is gross... I felt like moving.

That's the first thing I thought of, too!
Ditto! It sounds gross but examine one up close. There are some great pictures online that show the differences between flying ants and termites. If they are termites, you want to make sure you use the right extermination methods quickly!

OMG we had an ant problem for a few years in the house I grew up in. One fabulous year - they were flying ants!! My stomach turns just remembering that spring! They are soo gross when they fly around. We only had them in the enclosed porch, so it wasn't as bad.
I was younger, so I'm not sure why they grew wings that spring. The only reassurance I can give you - They were definately ants (not termites) and that was the ONLY year they ever had wings. After a few years the ant problem stopped.
