NYC Marathon Ladies!

How's everyone doing? I was having pain in my shin at the beginning of the summer, so I started training a little later than I wanted. I'm following a 12 week plan and just did 13 miles on friday. So far I feel great (knock on wood)! I'm doing 16 next friday, so I'm hoping that goes well too.
I just ordered long compression tights (i used compression shorts that went just above the knee last year). I'm gonna try them out on friday as long as its not too hot. I also just ordered a new pair of Asics that I'm gonna start breaking in soon. I'm getting so excited!! I ran it last year and its just one of the most amazing experiences!

I'm not doing it but DH is. He is supposed to run 18 this weekend. Good luck with your long run on Friday!

I just got a pair of Asics too. I have always been a brand loyal New Balance girl, but I couldn't find a pair of NB that I liked. I have only run with them once, but I like them.

My 16 mile run went really well! I just started using long compression pants and I feel that they make a huge difference!

good luck to your dh!

I'm here. Plugging along. I'm excited, but looking forward to the training being completed as it's wearing me out. Did 18 last weekend, and 12 this morning as a drop down week long run. How are you holding up?

Ugh, my shin has been bothering me. I was supposed to do 12 this morning, but stopped after 3. I've been icing the area and stretching my calf. I'm hoping that I'll be ok to do 4 on Monday. I'm up to 18 next friday, so I'm hoping to get up to that! Chat Icon

Hope you feel better - I have this thing called the prostretch that really helps stretch your calves nicely.

I have issues with my foot, it happened during my 18-miler, as well as this morning too....after 7 miles, it was annoying me. Ugggh. This is the part of training I really hate, the annoying aches and pains. So I'm icing right along with you and hoping I can get through 18-20 the same day you plan on it!! Don't stress, if you were supposed to do "only" (ha ha) 12, just take it easy for the next few days and test it out on Mon. Are you following a training program and how are your long runs scheduled? Just curious....

Thanks, I will check that out. This IS the annoying part when stupid pains start creeping up...last year it was my hip and I got a cortisone shot 6 days before the marathon! I'm hoping to be ok by Monday!

I'm following a 12 week plan, my long runs for the next 5 fridays are 18, 14, 20, 12, 8 and then race. I'll check in on Monday Chat Icon

Can I just say, you ladies are AWESOME!! Even though I've never been a runner, I've always watched the marathon on tv and was able to cheer on three of my friends from Mile 26 last year! My dream is to run it someday, though I cannot really forsee it being a reality. Struggling to do 3 miles makes me think like this. lol Keep up the great work, ladies!!! That's really sweet! Trust me, I only started running at 30 years old with the C25K...never in a million years did I think I would run a marathon. A year and a half later I ran NYC (last year)...it was incredible to cross that finish line! You can do it...its a lot of hard work and can be an emotional roller coaster lol..but so worth it!
