Newborn boys - question regarding circumcision

Should I be wiping the penis area down - like pulling it back? He got circumsized about 5 days ago and it's still alittle red. I wipe the area with a wipe - but don't do any sort of hardcore cleaning.

Should I be - or can I wait till it's fully healed?

Yeah I would (and did) stay away and let it heal. Obviously you need to make sure he is clean but you need to let him heal.

Re: Newborn boys - question regarding circumcision

We didn't do anything but put vasoline on a gauze pad and put that over his peesh and then diapered him.

I remember leaving it alone til it fell off...then vasoline on a gauge and dropping it over it every diaper change.

I was told by the Dr to pull it back and clean it or it will heal wrong and then the Dr will have to pull it back and it will hurt them!! I remember Todd Jr's skin had to be pulled back and I almost passed out, I felt so bad for him, my first boy so I wasn't use to cleaning the whole penis area lol

Two boys and this is what we did. I would not wipe it with wipes either just let the swelling go down first.

Re: Newborn boys - question regarding circumcision

the urologist who did KJ's did a plastibell (sp) and there was NO upkeep at all, no vaseline needed, we did nothing to it and then the plastic ring over it fell off after 10 days and it was fine and healed....Chat Icon

Re: Newborn boys - question regarding circumcision

As a mom that just had to have her son recircumcised at 2 years old, I still say to leave it alone. After a few weeks, start pulling it down!!!! Ask questions if you think things aren't going right.

But wait for it to heal!
