Nervousness...Is this normal ?

My DD sometimes seems nervous/excited, like when she is in the car seat and wants to get out she clinches her fists and starts shaking them, and her feet and hands are rotating.
I know, sounds weird but this is the only way I can describe it...any other babies like this?
Hope its normal. Dr. didn't seem concerned.

My DD is the same way. Her new thing is she bangs her head over and over when she doesn't get way. I hate when she does that...I feel like she is going to hurt herself.

But yea my DD does that too.

Re: Nervousness...Is this normal ?

My DD (I think she is close in age to yours... She's 10mo) does something similar with her hands. She has always had sensory processing difficulties (I got an OT referral, but never went b/c she is getting better with it). I am glad to hear of someone else's LO doing the same thing because it has me a bit worried, also.

My nephew started doing this when he was your DD age. He is now 5 and still does it to a degree. My sister had him evaluated and it's just 'his thing'. When he gets very excited, he shakes his hands/arms... now at 5, it sort of looks like he's flapping his arms at his side. Everytime he does it, we just say "Joey, arms." and he will stop. He doesn't even realize he's doing it! I don't think it's anything to worry about, but it couldn't hurt to ask her Ped.

Re: Nervousness...Is this normal ?

DS still does it and is almost 2. It's called "stimming" (self stimulation) when they are excited. It looks kind of weird, but it's just his thing, and not indicative of another issue unless coupled with other red flags for autism.

My DS does this too. He sort of shakes his arms when he is excited. I used to be really worried but I realize that it's just something he does. It actually came from a game my dad used to play with him when he was much younger that involved him shaking his arms and legs like crazy. If your ped isn't concerned, I wouldn't worry.

Re: Nervousness...Is this normal ?

I wanted to add--DS is nearly 2, and I've stopped worrying about "normal." Your DD is perfect and unique. Chat Icon
