Need suggestions - is there any way to help my newborn

sleep longer periods at night? He's 8 weeks old on Thursday and is still up every 3 hours around the clock. Since it takes an hour for him to eat I'm up every 2 hours. I'm soooo Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

At 6 weeks my DD was eating 6 oz's every 3 - 4 hours and sleeping 11 - 5/6 and by 8 weeks she was sleeping 8:00 - 6:00 (and still does 18 months later!!) Why can't my DS sleep????

He only eats about 4 - 5 oz every 3 hours and is a lazy eater - tends to fall asleep alot during the bottle and not always finish. I try tickling, changing, etc to wake him up, but he's out.

Last night he fell asleep in the swing at 5:30 after a 5 oz bottle. Woke at 8:30 took 4.5 oz fell back to sleep. I woke him at 11 and he took 2 more oz, woke at 2:40 took 4 oz, woke at 6 took 4 oz and back to sleep. It drives me crazy that he can't sleep for 5 or 6 hours yet!!! Is there anything I can do???? or anything I'm doing wrong?

I have a hard time keeping him awake between 5 - 8 because that's when I'm feeding, batheing and putting DD to bed.

I feel your pain!

I'm not the best person to give sleeping advice, but do you swaddle? That helps a lot of people. It helped us get our DS settled faster, but he doesn't sleep long stretches. At 4 1/2 months he still up every 4 hours and last night every three! Chat Icon

Don't tell me that. I won't survive!!! Yes we swaddle with the miracle blanket. He totally puts himself to sleep which is good - it's just keeping him asleep!!

WOW! We're in the same boat (kinda) mys DS is 7 weeks old. he put in down for 9:30pm for bed and he wakes @ 2:30am for a 5oz feeding. from 2:30am he just woke up at 7:45am. The other night he slept from 9:30pm till 4:30am! I thought our prayers were answered.. I guess not. During the day my DS is a lazy eater as well. And we also have him on a 3hr schedule during the day as well.

Now we're dealing with the possibility of colic.. where he'll cry for a couple hours esp. in the afternoon and then goes to sleep for the night.

maybe you should not waking him up to eat? let him wake up when he's ready? esp. during the day.

i know that infants/babies up until 12 weeks still do need that nutrition of eating in the middle of the nite......

the DRs say that after that time, u can start weaning them from the nite time feedings......

hang in there.....

Have you changed the nipple on the bottle? He may not be lazy, just tired from having to suck too hard.

When we got home from the hospital I used the nipples that came with the playtex bottles. That was a disaster! I wound up using the nipples that the hospital gave us! 10 months later, I just order them from similac directly!
