Need some assistance on planning a surprise party

DH turns 30 next August and I want to have a surprise party for him. His bday is on Aug 28 which is the Thursday before Labor day. His family thinks it's bad luck to celebrate your bday before your actual bday. But I am hesitant to have the party during Labor Day weekend. Here are my questions...

1- Do I have it the weekend before his bday, the weekend OF his bday, or the weekend after his bday?

2- HOW do I get names/addresses of his friends? I have the majority, but there are others I want....how do I go about this??

TIA!!!

I say go Labor Day weekend- Labor Day parties are the best.
If you have a phone number for a few of his friends, call them to get the other addresses.
That's what I had to do when DH dropped the wedidng invite ball.

Re: Need some assistance on planning a surprise party

I would say the weekend before or Labor Day weekend as long as most of his friends aren't already going out of town (he might be bummed if a lot of his friends don't show up). I definitely wouldn't do the weekend after because your DH, not knowing about the great party you have planned, might spend the week after his birthday thinking that you didn't make enough of a big deal about his 30th bday.

I agree about calling his friends to get other people's numbers and to find out if there's anyone else that you should invite.

Good luck - I'm sure he's going to love it! Chat Icon Chat Icon

I would aim for Labor Day Weekend. So many party excuses you can use to get him there.
But, if a lot of people are going away, aim for the weekend before.
Contact friends of friends for numbers.
What I did was (I know, shame on me) I went through my DHs Email Contact list and emailed them for their home addresses.

I would say the weekend after or before people always seem to have fam obligation on those days or yearly trips etc

My suggestion would be to see if you can email them, check some funny emails that may have been emailed around and see the names on the cc box , also www.whitepages.com is awesome

I would do it the weekend of his birthday.......as long as you send out the invites early.....

Best bet would be to use your wedding invitation list to know who to invite..... I'm sure you can request additional addresses through some of those people.....GL hope it all works out.....

Re: Need some assistance on planning a surprise party

I threw DH a 30th birthday a few weeks ago. His birthday is Aug. 26th and it fell on a Sunday. I threw his party saturday night, the 25th. I called one of his friends from work to ask him to help me get the names and numbers of people he works with he is friendly with and would want there.

Thanks everyone! I think I will do it before or after---I will be going to places in the next week or two and I think $$ will be the determining factor!!
