Need opinions on food for baptism party at home

DS is being baptized the end of this month. We are having the party back here at the house with just our immediate families (consisting of 46 adults & 13 kids).

I wanted to do hero's with salads since it is a Sunday afternoon & I just wanted it simple. DH is in the food industry & people he spoke to told him we MUST do hot food & not the heros bc it is more "formal" I am not looking for "formal" but trying to do something casual yet nice. Can you guys give me your opinions?

These are the two menus:

My menu
6 ft Chicken cutlet hero w/roasted red peppers & mozzerella
6 ft Italian cold cut hero
3 trays of assorted gourmet wraps
Chicken fingers for the kids
antipasta salad
potatoe, cole slaw & macaronni salad
house salad
tortellini salad

DH's menu
Full tray baked ziti
full tray penne ala vodka
chicken marsala
sausages & peppers
house salad
antipasta salad
chicken fingers for kids
bread

I had my DS baptism at my house and my menu was more like your DH's suggestion and I had one 3 ft hero. But, IMHO, the hero is always a waste when there is hot food so I probably could have eliminated that. Chat Icon

I prefer your DH's menu just because I am sick of heros lately! We did them for parties all summer! I think more people like the hot food anyway. Maybe add a salad to DH's menu too. Chat Icon

Since you want casual -- I like your option better.....but since you are having 3 trays of wraps -- cut out the hero, it would be overkill, IMO.

I say compromise-- do some hot trays of food, and a hero or some wraps. Nice mix of both Chat Icon

I would do a mix of both.
I love having hot food at parties - especially in the fall and I know that people are always looking for hero/wraps at some point in the day. At least my father is Chat Icon

I think so too. We did wraps for my DD's last birthday party instead of the hero and they went over great!!

ITA! We just did a wrap platter for my DS's 1st birthday and they were a big hit! Wraps and hot trays...

For my house parties - I always like the hero but a few hot dishes are always nice. Especially since it is a special occasion.
I think you should do the hero but some of the hot pasta dishes as well.
