NEED HELP!!!! *Updated w/ more info in original post*

This ALL started on Sunday...

DS has been spitting up after almost every bottle. Not ALOT, but more than just a little dribble. Also, most times it's "chunky"- DH described it as "it looks like curdled milk". And a few times it smelled sour.

I burp DS at least 1 time during and 1 time after each bottle, and MOST times he gets at least a little burp out. Nothing has changed and I am so confused why this is happening.

What should we do, on a holiday no less.

I have noticed that usually before the spit up if he's not fussing he is swallowing like he's trying to keep it down.

TIA!!!!

ETA: He also "chews" on his hands, mostly after or between meals. When I see this and try to give him pacifier or more bottle, he refuses both!

ETA: Just took temp, it's 99.6 (rectal)

ETA: He just spit up again...no "chunks" but he was fussing so I picked him up and after a min or two, he spit up on me!

I thought that, but (LONG story short) he was on this formula (Nestle Good Start) for 2 weeks, switched to soy per dr and now is back on the Good Start. He was fine when he was on it before.

Re: NEED HELP!!!!

I know how you feel -since 2 weeks old Maddie always gets sick on July 4th.

If it's curdled, he's throwing up.

Is he going through diapers ? (Start counting now)

How old is he?

Fever?

Try feeding him less to see if he can keep down a little bit.

Re: NEED HELP!!!!

I don't have any knowledge about the throwing up - but I will say Cailen chews on his hands a lot, and hates the pacifier - he prefers his hand, and he does it to soothe himself, so he's not hungry either....

Definitely try feeding less...even by a 1/2 ounce. It can make quite a difference. (Even if you have to feed a little more often) Lucas was too hungry for the standard 2 oz. every 3 hours within a week of birth, but he was vomiting almost violently with 3 oz. So, on my own, I gave him 2.5 oz....no more vomit. The dr. appreciated that I thought to do that and said from now on, only move up in 1/2 oz. intervals. Works wonderfully.

It sounds like it could also be reflux. Try to keep him upright as much as possible after you feed him - that might make a difference.

If he is squirming after eating, it might be from the reflux coming up. I would definitely call the ped tomorrow - unfortunately there isn't too much else you can do if that is what it is Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I am going to pretty much bet the bank its reflux.
I asked my doc about the throwing up and the consistency the last time..
way it goes is...when it looks exactly liek formula and smells like formula its because it is not digested--when its curdled and gross its because the acid in his stomach started to break it down.

I think it's reflux also. I would call the dr. in the morning though just to double check.

And I dont think 99.6 is a fever in infants, I think its 100.4 but I would definetely check every so often to make sure.

I hope he is feeling better Chat Icon

REFLUX!!!

curdled doesnt necessarily mean throw up according to our gastro.

the biting of the hand and the fussiness are definitley symptoms of reflux. you need to get him to a gastro. if you do a search on my screenname you will find alot of info on reflux. my dd is 1 and she still has it.

some more qs:

what type formula is he on?
does he arch his back?
does he get hiccups alot?
does he cry or get fussy during feeding?
does he sleep well? does he like to be on his back or does he prefered to be upright?

these are all q's the doc will ask to see if its reflux.

Re: NEED HELP!!!! *Updated w/ more info in original post*

FIrst of all I hope all is ok. Anyway. Try burping him after every 2 ounces . We had to do that AND hold the baby upright for 20 minutes after she ate. We had to do this too. A doctor does not consider anything a fever until it is 100.5 I believe.

Call your doc too just to tell them whats up .
