Need help deciding between Jamaica and Aruba

DH and I are planning our 1st anniversary trip in September. We're trying to decide between Couples Swept Away in Jamaica and Riu Palace in Aruba. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

I just put up a Review of Riu Palace in Aruba. I would recommend it. We felt like we were on out honeymoon again. It was very romantic. FM me with any questions.

Re: Need help deciding between Jamaica and Aruba

Since you want to go in September, I would suggest Aruba because its still hurricane season and Arba is out of the hurricane belt.

We LOVE Arbuba!! Going back in October! Cant wait!!Chat Icon

Re: Need help deciding between Jamaica and Aruba

I have been to Sandals in Jamaica (dunns River) and Renissance on Aruba.
Although Jamaica was nice, IMO Aruba is the way to go.
Aruba is much safer, cleaner island. We rented a jeep and traveled around the island, we walked to restaurants (Renissance is in the downtown area), we did an ATV tour cruising hte streets etc.
Jamaica was not so nice, we stayed on the resort, took a catamaran to Dunns River Falls. It was good for a relaxing, lay on the beach vacation. I have no desire to go back honestly. Aruba I would return to in a heartbeat.

Re: Need help deciding between Jamaica and Aruba

We've been to CSA twice and I loved it. Never been to Aruba so I can't compare. We didn't go off on our own in Jamaica (though we did do excursions), but I think the Jamaica beaches cannot be beat. LOVED the food at CSA.

I would pick Aruba over Jamaica. I've been to Aruba and loved it. I have only heard bad things about Jamaica.

That really bothers me about Jamaica. It seems like a lot of people who have never been have very bad things to say about it. I've been robbed and gotten sick from the water in Cancun, but I've been to Jamaica three times and have nothing but wonderful things to say about it. I have always felt safe and found the locals to be nothing but friendly to tourists. We had wonderful food and the beaches are some of the most beautiful in the Caribbean. The resort we stayed at was voted #1 in the Caribbean. As with any foreign country, I would be cautious because tourists can fall prey to robbers, etc., but we never experienced any of that in Jamaica. It seems to get a bad rap (and to me, without reason).

I've never been to Jamaica either, but we were in Aruba last year and it was paradise! I would definitely go there again; great beaches, activities and restaurants. An excellent choice!

Re: Need help deciding between Jamaica and Aruba

been to both Jamaica and Aruba, Aruba hands down!
Jamaica was beautiful but outside the resort is very poor, the locals hounded/followed us begging for tips and we did not feel safe at all.

dunns river was amazing and we went fishing too but overall I would go back to Aruba in a heartbeat over Jamaica.

oh edited to say when we went to a night club they had security and wanded everyone checking for guns and knifes even my purse- we were like ok- its not safe!!!!!!! there 10 min and left!

Umm, so because the security there wanded everyone that makes it unsafe. I would be happy that they are searching everyone just so that everyone can be safe.

Don't most night clubs here in America does the same thing??? What is the difference??? Just like every where else in the world there is good ad there is bad.

in america you ask- yea since 911, I am talking back in 98 and no not 1 night club I have gone to on vacation checked me for knives/guns and waved a wand all around me.
oh and let me add they were wanding tourist ONLY! no that is not safe. as I said we were there 10 minutes and were followed back to our resort with a local stalking us demanding we give him a tip b/c he helped usChat Icon never saw him before. when we got back to the resort- we went straight to the bar and the local serving the drinks told us he would NEVER go where he went very dangerous. so the next day he set up a personal driver to take us on a tour of the island b/c they are afraid of tourist becoming frightenend and then they wouldnt have business. yes they took us during the day to nice places but eh eh I like to walk around outside the resorts on my own and you certainly couldnt do that. this was my experience.

aruba was beautiful, safe, friendly- didnt have someone trying to sell me pot right off the plane or at the beach- you can walk and do freely with no worries, its comparing apples to oranges.

Re: Need help deciding between Jamaica and Aruba

Not to be morbid or hijack your thread but Natalie Holloway died in Aruba

I can't comment on Jamaica because we won't be there until next year, but Aruba from what I remember (it's been a while) was gorgeous

Re: Need help deciding between Jamaica and Aruba

I've been to both.

I HATEDDDDDDDDDDD Jamaica! Didn't like the food, the beaches were just ok and the excursions were not that amazing. That being said, one of my best friend's is Jamaican and will probably get married there. I might have to go back to attend the wedding but not by choice and she knows it, lol. I felt safe, I just wasn't impressed. JMHO.

But, I LOVEDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD Aruba!! GREAT food, Amazing beaches and so much fun stuff to do!!!!!!! I would go back in a heart beat!! We stayed at the Radisson and loved EVERY single minute of it!!!!
