Need advice...WWYD? Crib related

Not sure what to do....we were planning on reusing my first DD's crib for the baby that is due in April. She has gnawed at it and the slats are all scratched and dinged up from special orthapaedic shoes that she slept in for 18 months.

Anyway, I am looking to have the crib refinished. One guy quoted me $700.Chat Icon Holy smokes! Another guy said that he won't refinish a crib because he would be concerned that the new baby will use the crib as a chewy and ingest the lacquer.

We have a conversion kit for the crib to make it into a full but it's (the part of the crib that would be used as the headboard & footboard) a mess. Do I get the new baby a new crib? What do I do with this old one that was so expensive?? I feel like my hands are tied here.Chat Icon

Why don't you just get the head/foot board refinished for your older daughter, and spend the 700 on a new crib for the baby.

I'd get a new crib for the baby -
$700 just to renish it? You can buy a new crib !!

Honestly if the original crib is in such bad shape, I'd probably junk it and forget about having it refinished at all (for the baby OR your older child to use as a head/footboard) for what you'd pay for refinishing, you could buy a new piece -

Thanks for the advice. We are going to get a new crib and maybe strip and paint the old one white in the future.

I would buy a new crib. You don't have to spend $700 on a new crib!!

Re: Need advice...WWYD? Crib related

my son did the same thing.. for a while I thought he was a woodchuck.. We are using the same crib and it is staying the way it is .. I could get it refinished but I just feel it would be a waste of money for the short time in use.. DS was in a toddler bed by the time he was 18 months and now in a twin a 2...

Re: Need advice...WWYD? Crib related

I'd get a new crib-- I bet the reason why the refinishing cost is so expensive is because special non-toxic paint or finish needs to be used on the crib.

Personally, I would not refinish a crib because I would doubt the materials they used, unless the place was known for working with cribs.

I would maybe use the crib as a toddler bed for now-- and then get a regular bed when your older child is ready to move into it and call it a day.
