My husband has bad rosacea

He has gotten steroid creams from the Derm, other creams, I've given him stuff...nothing seems to help. He does have dry skin.

Anyone know how I can make this better for him? TIA!

Poor guy! What creams has he been on? I had a friend who used Cleocin T for rosacea and had great results!

I have it too. Nothing seems to work. It's only in the winter too.

But, I do find if I don't take a hot, hot shower or drink red wine (Which is a huge trigger for me) it's manageable.

Re: My husband has bad rosacea

Have him try Eucerin redness relief face wash and lotion. I find it works well.

Has he ever gotten a round of oral antibiotics? I had to start out w/ that for about 2 months, it knocked it out, then continue w/ the medicines the derm prescribed to keep it from returning.

My DH has it bad too..he just refuses to go to the doctor because he is a brat. He has been using aquafor but it makes it a bit greasy at first. Any other tips would help us too

Have you had your water tested? Do you have a house water filtration system? Or a shower filter?

I have rosacea...
I've used Metrogel, which works really well. I've also used Aveeno Ultra Calming Cleanser and Moisturizer, which also is pretty good!

Re: My husband has bad rosacea

Thanks everyone! There are some great suggestions here.

We have had our water tested in the past and it is very "hard" water even though we have a water softener...not sure about a filtration system which probably means we don't have one. He has taken some antibiotics in the past to try and clear it up, but they were rough on his stomach....he is also terrible with any type of "beauty" routine. I always have to remind him to apply creams, etc..it's very frustrating! I did order some of the Eucerin redness cream...hopefully that will help.

Thanks for all the suggestions!!

Re: My husband has bad rosacea

I have bad rosacea too especially in the winter.
Im on a combo of Oracea (pill) and metrogel and it seems to work pretty well. I also use Cetaphil cleanser to wash my face that helps too. I keep one in the shower and one in the cabinet so it's always on hand and i dont forget to use it.

I've also used Finacea cream (prescription) in the past and it's also worked great. Good luck!

Re: My husband has bad rosacea

mine gets worse every year.

#1....never put my face in shower water. instant trigger and red the rest of the day.

i wash it morning and night in sink with luke warm water.
right now i am trying out the clique line for redness and seeing good results.

sunscreen is a trigger for me...which sucks, because it is cancer or redness...cancer wins out. n
so i have been using 15 on my face...either from clique, the redness primer, or TJs 15. then a hat on.

during my period...obviously not a tip for your dh...but i switch in tea tree oil...usually throughly clean face.

alcohol leaves me red.

i don't know...being irish is sort of a middle age downer. i am apple shaped, frizzy red hair that went gray in my 20s. burn, freckles and derm diagnosed rosacea at 30.

Re: My husband has bad rosacea

Finacea cream

It is an RX from the dr. Works great! I thought I had acne all my life. Nothing ever took the redness away. Everything made it worse!
In my early 30's I went to the dr for something else and he started talking about my "Acne Rosacea".

I have a milder case that seems to come and go, but the Finacea works great when
I need it!

Re: My husband has bad rosacea

Has the doctor recommended any lasers? My sister and I both had rosacea and we both had IPL treatments and it helped tremendously. My sis actually works in plastic surgery so I get a touch up treatment every once in a while but I don't need creams anymore- my cheeks are not red anymore. You should definitely check into it, any updated derm office should have lasers now.

Re: My husband has bad rosacea

I agree with the remedies that the PPS suggested, Ive used metrogel and the eucerin cream. Ive found that learning waht triggers it helps to minimize the outbreaks though
Extreme temp changes make it worse so try not to take showers that are too hot.
Stress, drinking, working out excessively... these all trigger it.
One of my favorite things to use is a clinique redness relief cream. It has worked wonders for me.
Finally, check the ingredients for any lotions/creams that he curently uses.. anything with fragrance can aggravate it.
HTH!

Re: My husband has bad rosacea

i took antibiotics for a few months that really helped - i believe it was tetracycline or doxicycline, along with using metrogel twice a day.

I also use Aveeno calming face wash and moisturizer, and a green tinted primer (obviously not for your dh)
