My golden can be a good protector
Golden retrievers are normally not the best guard dogs. Mine will welcome you into the house and show you where all the good china is. Ever since I got pregnant he finds it his mission when DH isnt home to be my protector. Normally if DH is home and he hears a noise he barks once, runs to DH and Dh as to go check things out. But if DH is not home and he hears something he does a mad dash to where he heard the noise, bark up a storm and even growl a little until I come out and tell him it's ok. Even after he will sit in front of me as if he was defending me from something.
He is constantly at my feet, and wherever I go he feels he has to be there with me. Note to the evil rabbits running through the yard, the mailman and the people that toss telephone books in my driveway dont mess with a pregnant lady's golden retriever

awww that is so sweet! i was hoping mine would change into a protector when i was pregnant but no luck, she loves every stranger that comes to the door and she NEVER barks. She's actually a fraidy dog, if she hears a loud noise, she hides under the kitchen table.

Casey was SOOOOOO Like that when I was pregnant!!!!!!
It was amazing
And the nights DH had to work late, I felt sooo bad for her, cause she could relax. It was funny, he would walk in the door, she would greet him, then after a couple of minutes, she would walk away, lay down and let out this big, umffffffffffff. Almost like, ahhhhhh, I can relax
Actually she is still kind of like that with the baby too, just not as much as she was when I was pregnant.

Aww same here  They really are the best aren't they! And mine will show the burglar in, ask them if they would like a drink and take off his shoes BUT if she suspects anything is off...she completely switches gears!
