My dog had a seizure today
...he has never had one before and my poor DH was so upset (he was with him)---we called the emergency number for the vet and since he was okay after and didn't have another, they will see him tomorrow. Anyone else experience this? He is a 3 yo lab, in great health----we are wondering if he got into something in the backyard (he vomited right before the seizure)---any hugs or advice would be appreciated!

I've never had a dog, but my cat had a seizure many years ago. We found a dead bird in the yard, and we figured out that the bird must have been sick (and really, the bird must have been sick for my cat to catch it because she was already 16 years old). It was really scary to watch--she was panting and her eyes were rolling back in her head.
The good news is, she was shaken up afterward, and she walked a little funny for awhile after that, but she was old and she lived for another 3 years after that.
 that your dog is ok!

My parents dog (lab mix) has seizures every few months. They have taken her to the vet numerous times but they can't find anything wrong with her. I have never seen it, but my dad says it lasts for 3-5 minutes and she it completely out of it. Then when its over she is very mellow and sleeps. Now, my aunt has a lab also who was having seizures but more often. It turns out he has epilepsy (sp) and is on meds for it. My dad said the vet told him that seizures in labs are very common.

I never experienced seizures but just wanted to give you some and pray that everything is fine. He might have gotten into something he shouldn't have.

many many I had a silky terrier that had seizures, she was on phenobarbital, I know its a very upsetting thing to witness..
