My birth story Feb 15th, 2010

So on Sunday Feb 14th, at around 7ish I started to get irregular contractions that were anywhere from 4-12 minutes apart. So I called my doctor and he said he normally likes for them to be closer to 5 min apart but since I was 3 CM and 100% effaced as of a week ago, I should come in to get looked at and he would give me pitocin to get the contractions going. So pretty much I was going to be having my baby that night or morning!

So we get there and the contractions were a lot worse when I was walking and I was in so much pain, but lying or sitting down they weren’t bad and on the machine they were getting further apart like 10-15 min b/t each one. So the doctor comes to check me and he’s like if you’re not having contractions closer together then we will have to send you home. So now it’s like 10:15 and he checks me and I was a little more then 4 CM, so he says if I lived 5 min away he would send me home, but since I am sort of far from the hospital, he would just keep me and just use the pitocin to get my contractions more regular like he said on the phone. I was then told to walk around till 12 to see if it would help get the contractions more regular, then I would get the epi, then they would start the pitocin if need be. Me and my DH go walking and every 20 min or so they hook me up to the monitor and lying down they were still 10-15 min apart, however when I was walking they were every couple of minutes. So 12:00 comes and they give me the epi (honestly not fun….I remember it being a lot less painful when I had my DS-this anestislogist was taking FOREVER), and while I am on the table I start getting regular contractions every 4 min apart…I was so happy that my body did it on its home. I guess it’s a good thing we didn’t go home b/c I would have ended up right back there anyway LOL. So they gave me the pitocin anyway b/c they wanted the contractions every 2-3 min apart.

So now the next couple of hours I labor and unfortunately I was not feeling good. I had horrible heartburn, nausea, and vomiting. Nothing like my labor with my DS…where I was fine and jolly the whole time in labor. Soat around 4:40 the doctor comes to check me and I was 8 CM so he broke my water and told me he would be back in around an hour. Well a couple minutes later we lost the babies HB on screen so the nurse is frantically looking for it, finds it and it happens again and then again, turns out my little girl was sliding down into the birth canal very fast once they broke my water as she was ready to come out. So she asks me if I feel pressure in my rectum at all but I couldn’t feel a thing with the epi, so she rushes to get the doctor, he checks me and he’s like babies head is here, and tells the nurse get a birthing cart. So they get me set to push and turn off the epi, however it was to late, I still couldn’t feel thing. She was coming out, so the doctor kept telling me to push, but I was so numb I tried and I guess not much was happening. My doctor wasn’t the nicest, so I was starting to get upset. So now I see the doctor is getting a little frustrated and panicked b/c the baby is right there and I couldn’t push her out. So he tells the nurse get a vacuum ready. Now I start to cry and the doctor tries to joke with me, how I shouldn’t be upset, he yells at everyone, or something like that. So I said let me try again, so I gave it my all and next thing I know they put my beautiful little girl on my stomach! From when I started (trying) to push till I delivered was only 13 min and only 3 pushes. I had to have an episiotomy again but not as bad as with my DS’s (with him it took almost an hour to sew me back up and I had stitches in my vajayjay and butt), this took 15 minutes and was only strictly an episiotomy, so I was happy.
My little girl came into this world 10 days early on Feb 15th at 5:08AM, weighing 6lbs 11 ounces and 20 ½ inches tall. She has a full head of black hair and is the cutest, sweetest thing ever. She is a really good baby….very sleepy though LOL, nothing like my DS as a newborn as he was so alert. I think its b/c she was early and he was a week late, so she still thinks she’s in my tummy LOL. We are all adjusting nicely here and my DS really seems to love her so that’s a relief.
