mortgage shopping?
Hi,
We finally had an offer accepted on a house and will probably be signing the contract this week. We were pre-approved by HSBC and went to Wachovia on Saturday. The banker said that since our loan will be under a certain amount there will likely be only and 8th of a percent difference in rate from bank to bank, but how to we compare closing costs? We just feel a little lost in this part of the process.

Each bank should give you a Good Faith Estimate and that lists everything at closing. That's how you can compare closing costs.
That's how we decided to go straight with a bank instead of a broker - saved us over $5,000 in closing fees!
