More photography Q's - lens related

I love all these camera Q's on here as I am just about to buy a new digital SLR - nikon D40X. I dont know what to do about a lens. My initial feeling was just to use the reg lens - standard dont know the details but it doesnt zoom very far as I will be mostly taking pics of DD and will be up close anyway.

Also I dont want the bother of a big lens hanging around my neck when I am at the park etc as up til this I have been using a reg point and shoot.

So should I go with the standard lens for now to see how I like it and eventually if things are going well and I am getting used to using a larger camera I can then buy a diffrent lens?

Will I use both lens at some stage anyway?

Any advice?

TIA

i have two lenses and use both of them.. but my kids are a little older and so i use it when the kids are a bit far away from me.. also, i use it when i'm photographing other things like on vacation. start out with the small lens and get used to the camera then upgrade from there.

I also have 2 lenses and find that I use them in different situations, so I have a good carrying bag for them and learned to travel with the bag. I have a 28-80 mm and a 70-300 mm.

We have 2 lenses right now but are thinking of upgrading to the one lens that goes from 55-300 (i think) and it's actually not a big bulky lens. Only problem is that its about $500 Chat Icon
