moms with kids who have had surgery

Will they clear them for surgery if they have a cold...like a runny nose (clear) and a slight cough (but only in the morning when they first wake up)??

I think it depends on thte dr and the surgery. I would definitely call the dr and check prior to.

I couldn't say because my DD was fine when she was cleared....but ask Ang-Rich, I think she postponed her DS's surgery. You want your child to be as healthy as possible so they can concentrate on recouping from the surgery alone, KWIM?

If they have a cough or mucus no. It is dangerous because during anesthesia they cannot cough to clear the secretions. I rescheduled DS's surgery just from a cold as well.

Yup! DS was not cleared the first time because of a cold and cough. We thought he was getting better but the ped wouldn't okay it...it was not a critical surgery and he didn't want to take the chance (rightful so).

As Crissy said...they can't cough to clear the secrections and this puts them at a higher risk of pneumonia.

Re: moms with kids who have had surgery

Thanks everyone. He woke up this morning without a cough or a runny nose, so I am hoping it stays this way!
