I work from home 2 days a week and the other 3 in my office. I work for a major financial company.

My son goes to daycare on the days I work from home. it would be impossible to get things done if he was here.

I work from home 2 days a week.
I work as a business admin. I worked with the company before I got pregnant, and they agreed to let me work from home a few days a week.

I have been working as a nutritionist for years and then when I had my daughter I dropped my hours down to next to nothing. Now that kaylee is getting a little older I am going to up my hours and go back to seeing clients in the office and doing the rest of the work from home. Good luck.

Re: Moms that work from Home

I am a personal/executive assistant for business entrepreneur. At one time we work for a public company and he was the CEO. When he left I went with him to another job in NYC. At 8 months PG I couldn't commute anymore so I started working from home. I told him that once DD was born I wasn't going into the city anymore. Since it worked out so well when I was PG he told me I could just continue to work from home. It's really hard though trying to take care of a infant and another very demanding person. My stress level is WAY up!! For me it is totaly worth is though, because I am home with DD everyday.

I'm an atty with my own practice. I can do my work at home and then I just have to appear in court in the mornings from time to time.

Im starting at 1800 flowers pretty soon, its a part time position taking sales calls. The pay is fair for a part time job. You make your own hours which is really good and the min is 6 hours per week. The only issue is you have to have a pc that has a lot of memory because their programs take a lot of space. I applied on their website. 1800flowers.com.

Same here. Grace is in day care 3 days a week. On the days I am home the only work I do is answer my cell and communicate through emails. The office knows that is my time with my DD and they pretty much leave me alone unless there is a problem with one of my closings, or a clients needs to talk to me.

I work as an account rep. / title closer for a title company. I started in the title industry 2 years ago. I made the move from working in a non profit because I wanted to be home as much as possible once I became a mom. This was the plane before we started TTC.
The company I work for now is owned by a woman who raised three kids on her own and built her business, too. Her kids are grown now, with their own kids. Chat Icon I go two offers and choose this company because I knew she would be understanding if Grace was sick or something.

You will, you just have to be creative. What do you bring to the table that NO ONE else has? What did you do before you had Ali? can you do any part of that from home? If not, what have you done in the past or want to do in the future that you can realitistically do from home? Are you creative? Can you make or design something that can be sold on eBay? For example...If you knit specialized baby hats, blankets, or mittens you can sell them on eBay. Just trying to think outside of the box here.

I know a few SAH moms who make those chocolate favors for people's christenings, weddings, etc. Although they are easy to make, I know I don't have the time to make those, so I would just buy them. I know a lot of other working moms who will buy stuff like that to save time.

What about getting certified to have a day care in your home and ONLY take a few kids like two? Just and idea

For me, I had two years experience with a book of existing business (all of my clients came with me to my new company), so my new company was making money from hiring me right away. I pretty much wrote my own ticket.

I HTH. Hang in there, Marcie. Everything will work out for you! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I'm working for my former agency 1-2 days week out of the house. The rest I can do from home. Before I resigned I had already discussed with my boss being a consultant for them. She did not want to lose me so she was very motivated to make it work.

I have a Master's degree in Counseling. I'm a Certified Rehab Counselor (CRC) and Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC).

Good luck with your search.

Re: Moms that work from Home

I have a home based, real estate appraisal business, so unless I'm out on an appraisal, I'm at the "office". I started the business a few years ago, so that when it came time to have kids, I would have a flexible arrangement.

Its great to be around Ella for most of the day, but is also not that easy to get things done if she's being needy.

When I run out to do appraisals, she generally stays home with Al, who also works from home (telecommuting w/ the job he had when we lived in CA)

Re: Moms that work from Home

I'm an attorney who works for the Federal government. I work in the office two days per week and from home one day per week. Although I am very lucky to have this job, until very recently, it was virtually impossible to get anything done when my kids were awake. Now that my youngest is almost four and attending nursery school two full days and two mornings per week, it is an ideal situation.

Re: Moms that work from Home

I am a Director of PR and Marketing for a high-tech software firm. My job is not a typical at home job. I just have a great boss.
I used to commute to NYC 3-4x a week until my pregnancy complications caused me to not be able to commute. From then I just worked from home.
I had Molly at home with me for 5 months. But then she needed to go to daycare 2x a week, then at 10 months (or so) 3x a week then at 16 months 4x a week. There are pros and cons to the arrangement. Yes, it is great but at the same time I am never really "off"...I am almost always working. I don't have the office- home seperations. I am not a SAHM in any way and yet, I don't go to an office either.

You need to find a regular job that allows you to work from home. So many of those work from home jobs are just crap.

Re: Moms that work from Home

my sister works from home and does very well.
She works for melaleuca, opening up accounts for this wholesale company. (they sell herbal/non toxic products, everything from vitamins to cleaning products, huge company).
you have to be a big people person and be a go getter. she loves it and if it werent my own sister, I would never beleive she makes as much as she does.

and as with any job, its what you put into it that you get back. She is a hard worker, and has moved up significantly in the past couple of yrs.
she works her own hours, and goes out to do presentations whenever need be.
FM me if you want more details, and I can put you in touch with her.

I could never work from home, or Id be doing it myself.

good luck to you! Chat Icon

Re: Moms that work from Home

Dh is a cop so his hours are not consistent especially if he makes an arrest. I went to collent for PR and event planning and wound up going in a different direction out of school. Right now I work for bank and mortgage co. but am in the process of starting my own business. I am going to start out small doing invitations, favors and announcements and eventually grow to do wedding and event planning. I am a people person so this is a perfect job for me and a perfect job for someone that needs to work from home. Actually, in a few weeks I should be listed as a new vendor on LIW and LIF. Re: Moms that work from Home

When I first went back to work, I worked from home 2 days a week (did this for 1 year). I was an IT Manager. My company has no real policy for this but my boss is a mother and works from home 2 days a week and got it approved for me (I had been with my conpany a very long time - 10+ years so she wanted to keep me). While I loved being home with my son and loved getting out of the NYC commute - regaining 3 hours of my day), the days I worked from home were very stressful and to tell you the truth I looked forward to being in the office. I felt like neither work nor my son was getting what they should be getting. For work, I had to work much harder the days I was in the office and had to do work on off hours (after my son went to bed - 11pm and early hours 5-6am) just to keep up. It eventually ate me up and I was going to ask to go pt and just work the days in the office instead - but I ran out of child care options for those days and now I only work PT 1 day a week as an IT Consultant for my old company (in NYC). If you do find something where you can work form home, I recommend having good child care those days as well - esp once you hit 6-7 months and crawling and moving begins!!! Good Luck to you!

Re: Moms that work from Home

I work as a claims rep. for a car insurance company and I handle all outside investigation and injury claims (pain and suffering).

I started about 2 years ago working for another car insurance company as just a regular rep. handling property damage, appraisal and such. I was looking to leave because I was miserable and happened to stumble across my current position which lets me work at home. I needed my previous experience for this job.

My mom still watches Ryan during the day but if she can't for some reason it is possible to keep him home, or if he is sick.

I love it!

ETA: the kicker is I am getting paid more $$, have a company car to use for personal use, and have less work to do-- and get to work at home. I didnt think a job like this existed!
