Moms of older kids who had convertible cribs - question...

Did you actually end up converting the crib? Ryan has a convertible crib but I'm debating on getting another one for Chat Icon . Ryan's is still in good condition, but he has nicked it a bit from banging toys on the edges - so there are little scratches. Nothing really on the headboard. But, now I wonder, if we'll go from his crib to a toddler bed (like a car or something) and then a twin. And realize I never even bought the conversion kit. Is it worth it?

If you have a second DC, did you get another convertible crib?

DS will only be 18 months when DC #2 comes but we don't plan on getting another crib. the baby will be in a bassinet at first and i am hoping DS will be ready for a twin bed with rails, but if not, we'll keep him in the crib for a few months longer.

See I'm debating this too - but I don't want to rush him out of the crib, he seems to be happy in it. But, I haven't order DC2's furniture yet, b/c I know he/she will be in the co-sleeper until Ryan is almost 2.

Are you getting furniture to match the crib for DC2 or just giving that baby Luca's entire set?

my dc are 20 months apart. I never converted my crib. We reused the crib for baby #2. and then we got a toddler bed for dc#1. plus the converter kit was $250 and a toddler bed cost us $70. It just made more sense for us that way.

I plan on keeping Nina in the crib till shes at least 2.5. I will just get her a new bed with rails after the crib, I have no desire to convert her crib. Baby Chat Icon will be in our room for probably 6 months so by that time we will probably just move Nina into a bed. But Nina's crib is kind of girly so I have to get him a new crib anyway.

We're not buying another crib. When baby #2 is born, we're going to keep her in our room in the PNP/Bassinet for 6 months. Then we're going to give her DS's crib and move DS into a twin or full bed with bed rails. I'm hoping he'll be ready by the time he's close to 2. After baby #2 finishes with the crib, we're going to convert it into a toddler bed for her or make it into a full bed for the guest room and give both kids brand new grown-up furniture.

Miine are 19 months apart.DD had a convertible and so does DS. DD was not ready for bed yet so we kept her in her crib and with DS he was in his room form night 1 so a bassinet wasnt an option. We converted hers at 27 months and will convert his when ready. We did have to buy the kits.

No we didn't get another crib. Mine are almost 21 months apart. DS#2 slept in a co-sleeper in our room for first 4 months and then we moved DS#1 to a toddler bed when he was 25 months. DS#2 is 29 months and still sleep in the crib.

We'll probably never convert the bed. We'll probably buy bunk beds next.

DS and DD will be 26 months apart. When DS turned two we moved him into a big boy bed. I got bed rails from one step ahead. DD will get DSs crib once she is born. For the first 2-3 weeks she will be in a basinett. I am hoping to explain to DS that perhaps we can "give" DD his crib b/c he is a big boy and is already in a big boy bed. I did not get his bed the conversion rail to make it into a toddler bed.

For both DC, we got them their own furniture, both with convertible cribs. DS went from crib, to toddler bed, and he's now in a full bed. DD went from a crib to a toddler bed, and she'll convert to a full in a year or two.

By them having their own stuff from birth, we never had to worry about timing (switching DS out of the crib so DD could use it, etc). They both convert when they need to, independent of what the other needs.
