Moms of late walkers come in

How old was your DC when they started walking? DS will be 1 next week and although he cruises around the playpen holding onto the side....he is nowhere near ready to walk on his own. To be honest I'm in no rush for him to start walking b/c then the "chasing" begins Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Moms of late walkers come in

DS was 15 months old when he started walking. He was taking a few steps there and there by 14.5 months, so it took him a few weeks to walk on his own.

Now, you'd never know he was a late walker!

Re: Moms of late walkers come in

DD did not walk until she was 17 months old. She fell down 5 steps (I caught her) and sprained her ankle at 13 months so that slowed her down a bit.

Re: Moms of late walkers come in

Kieran just started really walking about 3 or 4 weeks ago, at a little over 14 months. Since about 10.5 months, he would take a few steps between people if you set him up. Around 12.5 months, he started taking a few steps between furniture, etc. One day, at 13 months, he walked about 10-12 steps many times at a family party, so we thought that was it. But he fell pretty hard and hit his head on the floor that day, and I think it might have spooked him, because he was incredibly cautious after that for a while, and not nearly as adventurous. Now all he wants to do is walk, and literally every day we can see an improvement in his balance, speed, etc.

DS was 17 1/2 months when he started walking. Never crawled. Just "scooted" on his butt around the house. Then one day I came home from work, and he was walking around while holding a toy in his hand! Walked right by me and said "Hi Mom!" I was shocked.

Both my kids were butt scooters before walking. DS walked at 16 months and DD started walking recently- 18 1/2 months. I think she heard me tell DH that I was ready to call EI, because the next day she stopped scooting and started walking and carrying a handbag everywhere Chat Icon

When both my kids started walking, they were walking perfectly. They didn't do the frankenwalk as my ped says Chat Icon

This is reassuring as my 14 month old doesn't crawl (only butt scoots) and he doesn't seem to have any interest in walking yet. He is getting PT twice a week but it doesn't seem to be helping yet.

Re: Moms of late walkers come in

DD #1 started walking 2 weeks after her 1st b-day. DD#2 turned 1 today and is no where close to walking. She barely stands at this point. She's in the process of being evaluated by EI.

Re: Moms of late walkers come in

DD#2 is 13.5 months and just started taking steps on her own. She's still very hesitant so I think it might be a while before she takes off.

Both my boys were late walkers. 15 and 16 months. The doctor never raised a concern about it. When it finally did happen they were really good at it....did not wobble or anything for very long.
