Moms of 2 under 2 or soon to be that have DH's that work late

How do you do it? DH works long hours and I feel so alone. I don't know how I am going to do it with two. Chat Icon I live about 20 minutes from my family. We plan to live closer to my family but DH says we won't be ready to start looking for house for a year and a half. I am so stressed.

I know it sounds cliche, but you just do it. There were a lot of nights in the beginning where I was going to bed when he walked in the door. Now that they are older it's gotten better. And on the weekend DH is the primary care giver. He wanted to be able to be as involved as his schedule allows for.

Jess I have the same concern. My DH works until almost 8pm on a regular work night and until 11pm for a month every quarter. I do both drop off and pick ups at daycare, work FT, do all the cooking, errands, laundry, cleaning, etc. He gets home right as she's going to bed and leaves before she wakes up.

He's doing his busy hours now and only see's DD on the weekend. I'm so run down and getting sick on top of being 8 months preggo.

Like a PP said I think we just do it. What choice do we have. Honestly being 20 minutes away from family isn't bad if you needed someone to come help or just needed a change of scenery. I'm an hour and 20 away from my familyChat Icon

We'll figure it out Chat Icon

I have 2, who are already older now, they are 2 and 4.... DH works late almost every night, it's rare that I get him home before 10, but it does happen sometimes (which I am grateful for!). I just get into a routine, sometimes giving them a bath together and reading their bedtime stories together. My DS stays up a little later than DD, so he's my little helper while I put DD to bed, and then he gets him time. When DH is home, he takes over with it all, to give me a break.

It is tough, but you will make it work.
I know...DH works long hours now that he started back up again. I dread the summers because of this, most days he gets home when they boys are all ready to go to bed.Chat Icon

Re: Moms of 2 under 2 or soon to be that have DH's that work late

I'm not a 2 under 2 mom and I won't be because of this very reason. DH is away all week for work and I have no one nearby to help. Originally we had planned to have Baby #2 before DD was 2, but I just knew there was no way I could handle it on my own. DD was more challenging than I expected, so one was all I could handle without completely losing my sanity. Chat Icon I give you all so much credit. Chat Icon

Re: Moms of 2 under 2 or soon to be that have DH's that work late

I have the same issue. DH has always worked late. When he has huge projects which is usually 2-3 months out of the year he works 12-16 hr shifts. On a regular he gets off of work at 8:00pm every night. I live in PA so he usually doesnt get home until 10 or 11 pm. It sucks but I just deal with it. I am also having baby number 2 in Sept. so we will see how this works out. He might be thinking about getting another job.

Like the other girls said, it just works out. Mine aren't both under 2, they are 2.5 years apart. My DH works crazy hours, I don't even see him Mon- Thurs. Now that dd is a bit older I have been giving them baths together and trying to create a routine, its hard but it works out.
