Moms kitten died this am - Need advice/help!

She only got him 4 weeks ago. He was a pure breed from a respected breeder of British Shorthairs. She fed him the proper diet and vitamins since she has had him. He had diahrea last night and she woke up and he was barely breathing. Rushed him to the vet hospital...they pumped him with fluids and he started doing better..then he crashed and stopped breathing..they brought him back but then he crashed again and they were unable to bring him back :(

How can this happen? We called the breeder and she said he must have eaten poison!!! ***? What should we do?

On a side note...my father passed away 2 months ago and this new kitten was the only thing keeping her going (they planned to get him together the day before he suddenly passed). So she is a complete mess and thinks "she kills everything" :(

I'm so sorry that this happened to your mom. How sad.
How callous of the breeder to suggest that the kitten had eaten poison.
If the vet had to pump him full of fluids, then he might have been in kidney failure. A lot of things could have caused that, and without a necropsy (animal autopsy) it would be difficult to determine the exact cause of death.

I hope you mom gets better and doesn't feel like she kills things. Sometimes these things just happen for no reason at all.

I would think that a respectable breeder would want to know the cause of death. I would encourage your mother to contact this breeder again and inquire as to if any other cats have died. I am so sorry for your family's loss
