Moms -DS is making this weird noise with his throat and it is freaking me out - is it normal or should i be worried?
DS is 4.5 mos. He can't talk obviously but he screams, squeals, laughs, says "hi" and other unrecognizable sighs and sounds. Starting this morning he is making this weird noise off and on all day intermixed with his other sounds- its like a dry "throaty" sound with his mouth wide open- i don't know how to explain it - its almostlike he is trying to talk but cannot get the words out. its like a dry rasping sound. At first i got nervous and thought he was having trouble breathing but he has been totally normal all day and still making his other noises. I'm not sure if this a cold or something? But, he has no other obvious cold symptoms...should i be concerned or is it maybe him just trying to speak? thanks in advance!

My son makes TONS of weird naoises like that, even fake coughs to hear himself. ITs normal!

I wouldn't worry about it,my daughter makes such funny noises too , it scares me sometimes,lol.

sometimes babies with reflux make noises like that.. does he have any problems with that?
sometimes babies discover a sound and like the way it sounds so they keep doing it.

DS does it all the time. That's his "frustrated" sound. He does it when he is annoyed or just to try his voice.

DD spent a few days making the same kind of noises, it almost sounded like she had laryngitis but she obviously didn't because she could use her voice to cry or coo or squeal on the same day. After that she started "growling", I think she was just experimenting with sounds.

Let's just say that we almost took DD for a chest xray because of "those sounds". One day all of a sudden it sounded like she was gasping for air...she would screech loud and then make the same noise, but when sucking IN air. It was SO weird. I freaked, brought her to the DR. Almost got x-rays...it was a big deal...but yeah...
just testing out those vocal cords

And our PED had me freaked because she was like, "well, I'm concerned because she doesn't have any other cold symptons and her lungs sound fine" She was completely normal otherwise. Our DR was like, well, things could be "crossed" in there and the airs not flowing properly...then she talked about the croup cough? I was like WHAT!??! She gave me a script for the x-ray, gave me the # of a pulminary specialist, the whole 9 yards. Then she's like, ya know, the more I listen, the more I think she's just finding her voice  We were in the Ped's office for a while listening and came to the conclusion that it's nothing serious, thank god!! Our Ped called us on Sunday and asked how she was doing...how the "noise" was and said don't bother getting an x-ray...SO...Yes, it can be VERY nervewracking. I'm right there with you and at the moment, listening to her make that horrible noise!!
