Mid way point to stop between here and the Outer Banks?
We are taking a family vacation to the Outerbanks in July.
DS will be 15 months and I'm not sure how he will handle a 10 hr car ride.
We were thinking of leaving around 7PM on Sat, driving till midnight (midway) and then stopping for the night somewhere, having breakfast, taking a nice walk, and then driving again towards his morning nap.
Any suggestions on where we can stop and stay for the night?

Fredericksburg, VA is where we stopped halfway back from Hilton Head. We stayed at the Residence Inn there and it is BRAND new, they have PNP's, and you have a full kitchen.

Seriously - if you guys decide to spend the night in DC or even in Fredericksburg (about an hour away (South) from me) we would all come down to say hi!!! So keep us in mind if you need ANYTHING!!!!

we stopped in Exmore VA and stayed at this hotel.

it was really nice and clean. Everyone was extremely polite and very helpful.
I would stay there again if we did the trip to the outerbanks.

Seriously - if you guys decide to spend the night in DC or even in Fredericksburg (about an hour away (South) from me) we would all come down to say hi!!! So keep us in mind if you need ANYTHING!!!!

we went to the outerbanks last year and we stopped in Roaneke VA. I will try to find the hotel information. It was a nice place, we got there late so we pretty much just went out to eat dinner and then to sleep.

I edited my original post because I was wrong about the town where we stayed.
It was Exmore VA and I also posted the link to the hotel where we stayed.

We stayed in Norfolk, VA when we drove to the oter banks. My son was 17 mos at the time. Rented a hotel, had dinner, walked around the town (they had some kind of festival going on at the time too), that kind of stuff.

We've driven to OBX three times. The first time we didn't stop, but the 2nd and 3rd years we did. We stayed in Exmore also! And we also stayed over in Salisbury, MD.

We flew into Norfolk last time and rented a car at the airport and drove from there!
