Question -- Ladies -- Everyone always assumes that the female is the cause for infertility.

How many of you TTCer have brought in your husbands to be tested?

Re: Male Infertility

we haven't gotten to that point yet.

First we have to get me to ovulate, and if I don't get a BFP once I'm ovulating regularly, we'll move on to additional tests for both of us.

mine was tested and he has some serious sperm issues. We are hoping to "optimize" him before we go any further.

Re: Male Infertility

Before any invasive testing is done ont eh female, the male should be tested. All a man has to do is go in a cup and get his sperm analyzed, this is so much nicer than some of the things women have to go through.

Deb I agree 100%!!! I was wondering why my OBGYN didnt suggest this! But the RE suggested it right away so he had his done. They should always start with the male!

Re: Male Infertility

I had DH tested pretty soon -- because we hadn't used protection for a while, and nothing happened. But, we weren't keeping track yet either. As I say, he's doin' what he likes...just into a cup!! No biggie!!

But, I suppose if the woman knows she has issues - no period, not ovulatin, whatever, it makes sense for her to get on track first, although I feel testing the swimmers is not a bad idea from the get-go!

Knowledge is power....

Re: Male Infertility

DH has lots of little swimmers, but they are kind of slow.

Gave us some insight into the problem and like Deb said, sooooo much easier for the guy to get tested than for us!!

Re: Male Infertility

DH just about freaked out when I told him he had to get tested....but he came around and it was fine. When I had my last IUI, they told me that DH's sample was great...so I told him and he has been smiling ever since. He had to go back the following day for another sample...and the tech told him his sample was good yesterday....DH was like, what did they post it in the employee lounge or something Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

But...now we know it's not him that's the problem....it's me Chat Icon

you're DEAD!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

and besides you got the story wrong, it wasn't from pulling a "nerve in my package" -- it was a testicular cord, the epididymus (spelling). It was inflamed and I took medicine for it. The doctor didn;t seem to think the boys would suffer as a result.
