Lying on a police report
So my dad was in a car accident tuesday in brooklyn (on my birthday). This guy didn't see the red light because of sun glare and drove into my dad. He was a off duty police officer in his personal car. So the police were called and my dad picked a up the police report today. The report said my dad ran a yellow light and the other guy had a green light, which is completely untrue. The officer that wrote the report is apparently out sick today. My dad has a witness and gave their number to the insurance company but they left before the police arrived. I'm so mad, I can't believed they lied. The guy that hit my dad even said that he ran the red light. Has this ever happened to anyone. Any suggests on what do it. Thanks

Yes, this happened to my DH. He had an accident w/ a post office worker & the cop sided w/ the post office worker. An insurance co. does not take the police report as 100% proof unless a police officer witnessed the accident. You can call the precinct and speak to the PO that wrote the report & have him amend the report. They can amend it. I would also have the witness speak to the insurance company.

And, how do you run a yellow light anyway? Can't you only run a red light? I would definitely fight this one!

Thanks girls. The witness is going to put what he saw in writting and my dad will try to talk to the PO by Monday. If no luck, then i guess he will talk to their supervisor.
He was probably trying to make my dad look bad and got confused with the lights. My dad also works for the city and I can't believe they would try to screw him like this.

On the police report, both stories are written as reported by those involved in the accident.
As far as the witness..was the witness there when the police arrived and did the police interview the witness and put this story on the police report?
