Lets talk about Grand Jury Summons

I got one in the mail today. I had gotten one back in Feb. but I had to postpone it cause I was going to be in Vegas,
So I guess my question is- it is like regular jury duty and you can be dismissed? It says that the Grand Jury is 4 weeks or longer.
Is that only if you get picked???

I had to go in October. They had like 100 people in this big room. They asked people to volunteer to be on the Grand Jury. They only needed a certain amount of people and if you volunteered and didn't get picked you can't get called to serve for like 7 years. I got out of for 2 years because I was still nursing my DD at the time. So many people volunteered that if you don't want to do it I'm sure you won't have too. They also were picking the jury for specific cases (for me it was insurance/medicaid fraud). I *think* if you didn't volunteer you get out of it for 2 years but I'm not 100% on that one. HTH

ETA: they said they picked the jury by a random name draw.

I heard the same thing as Stacey. My friend just got picked and bc shes an occup therapist consult. it would be ok money wise for her. She said she didnt have to say a word (though she would have) bc there were so many that wanted to do it.
