Let the questions begin!

and here they go...Chat Icon Chat Icon

Ok so i know i should really know these answers but i dont have a clue.

I was reading one of the other posts about going off BCP and some of you ladies were posting how you were regular prior to BCP's and it helpped know what you would be like after.

i have no idea what im in for.. i got my first period when i was about 13 and started bcp's by the time i was 15 b/c the GYN had assumptions that i had endometriosis (sp?) as they still do which was the reason for me starting the BCP my cramps could have killed a small child.

im very nervous that this is whats going to happen now that im going off them but i can honestly say i have NO CLUE what my periods were like prior to BCP.

i could go quite a few months with out a period right? anyone else have similiar situations? any ideas to what i should expect?

TIA!

Re: Let the questions begin!

the only part of this that i can comment on is the pain thing.

I had HORRIFYING cramps when i was younger - was on all kinds of levels of pain kiillers, MAJOR ones, MAJOR MAJOR ones...so i'm with you. To the point, before the pain killers, that i begged my mom to have my uterus REMOVED.

I was petrified about the pain coming back when i went off the pill. (i was on it for more than 12 years).

The pain has been bad - but not mind blowing - crying on the bathroom floor bad.

It's dealable with - using Pamprin or Midol - so it's been a pleasant surprise.

ETA: I was told the reason for my pain was that i had cysts covering both ovaries. Was this accurate and true? No idea... I had surgery to remove the largest cyst because it was causing deadly pain and it burst while they were operating on me.

Re: Let the questions begin!

Thanks so much jess... sounds like we have some of the same experience with pain... i too had pain that put me in the hospital.. and the only way they can diagnose me with endometriosis is exploritory surgery which i dont want to do untill i have TTC complications.

I have been using naproxen to help with the pain. so im hoping that it will continue to help post BCPs.

thanks for the hope that it really wont be so bad!

I can really relate to the pain - you have no idea how petrified i was...my friends made fun of me for WEEKS...like -you got away with it for more than 10 years - SHUT UP, etc...

Naproxen is what i have been using as well, and when i ran out of that - Aleve is good too!

I would never push someone towards surgery - but pay close attention to how you feel, and if the pain returns - you may want to consider the surgery. Or in the very least, get a second opinion on your original diagnosis & options.

I say this just because, once you start TTC - it's heartbreaking to learn that something that could've been fixed is causing an issue that's delaying it.

I can't pretend to know anything about endometriosis, but you may want to make sure it can't cause potential miscarriages - which again, would be devestating...after the fact.
