Let me get this straight?? Enterprise..carseat..

***We're going to Texas in a few weeks & rented a car & when I asked Enterprise for a carseat, they referred me to this other company, Baby's Away.

When I emailed them for rates for a carseat, they sent this:

$59. one time delivery/set-up fee
$5.00 a day

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

Didn't rental companies used to provide carseats for free?

I could buy a cheap one for less than that.

Is this the standard w/ all rental cars?

Re: Baby's Away? Anyone deal w/ them?

I used Baby's Away when we went on vacation to Tucson. It was very easy. We only used them for an exersaucer and some toys, since we borrowed a pack n play and a high chair. Since we rented non-essentials, I picked up the stuff from them. It was basically a family's house- the mother had cleaned the toys, and it looked fine. I think it is a business that is run through different people in private homes, not an office. They do have delivery, so if they could deliver the carseat to the rental place, that might work. Have fun in Texas!

That's crazy. I personally would just take my own car seat and check it in or buy a cheaper car seat and take that with me. What if you get to the place and the car seat you're renting is all dirty and gross?

Yes car rental companies charge you for infant / toddler seats. In my experience they are usually dirty and gross so I bring my own.

I think I would buy an inexpensive seat and just bring it with me that is what we are doing for our trip to florida (but DD will also have her own seat on the plane so I would have brought mine regardless)- I have read that you don't want to use the rental car ones unless you really have to - I have read of people getting very old seats, you don't know if the seat has been in an accident (which I guess you also won't know if you rent it from baby away either).

I agree with buying one too. You could always sell it when you come back.

Um ours cost $100 when we went to Florida (actually $50 after our AAA twin discount). The seats were disgusting and they are not installed for you so my DH was siting in the middle of July in Florida trying to put the seats in. They were pretty crappy too.

However I have two so its really too much to bring two with me so I will be doing it again in October.

Re: Let me get this straight?? Enterprise..carseat..

We went to Florida last August when Emily was just under 2 years old and we flew with the Britax marathon. Honestly we were going to take our Evenflo just in case something happened to it, but I figured that the Marathon was just so much easier to install, so it was no problem going from plane to rental car.

Honestly I wouldn't trust renting a seat. Even from a reputable company, if a seat has been in a car accident then you aren't supposed to use it anymore. You just never really know. So I felt more comfortable bringing our seat with us.

I could be wrong but I think you can gate check it so it doesn't get thrown around as much - but you can also buy a car seat bag - which has wheels (and a strap so you can carry it on your back) so it would protect it from getting filthy but would also be easier to carry

Just remember the luggage restrictions now. I don't believe you can gate check a car seat, just a stroller. I would call the airline and see if it is going to count as a piece of luggage.

THere is no cap on baby equipment.

Cindy, we are flying to Florida in a few weeks and I am bringing our comfortsport and putting it in a laundry bag and checking it.

My SIL rented a seat for my neice when she was 13 months old and it didn't fit her at ALL and my SIL had to go buy one anyway!

We'll be checking our car seat mid-July to go to Florida. For all of the reasons that have been mentioned, we have opted not to trust a car seat that we could get through the rental car company.

we have checked our carseat several times and it was the easiest thing ever. especially curbside check-in. I would recommend bringing yours.

As long as you purchase a seat for the baby. When I flew from Vegas to here, DD was a lap child, and we were limited to the amount of items that we could check for her b/c of this.

I was able to gate check her Snap n Go and her SafeSeat if that at all helps.

Yes, they do, for up to 2 weeks. I just got two from them for my GF that is visiting from FL with her two kids. I just had to show my AAA card and my license and I got them for 2 weeks. Really nice ones too. Not Britax, but comparable.

Great idea w/ the laundry bag (I was wondering what I was going to put it in).
