Leaky diaper at night...question about pull ups vs. training pants

My son is a peeing machine. He is a big boy and goes through his diapers every morning. I've been putting a pull up over his diaper which works great, but they're expensive and I'd rather not buy them if I don't have to. Do you think if I put a pair of the vinyl pants over his diaper at night would it work or would he leak right through? Should I invest in a few waterproof training pants instead to help the leaks? He's too big for huggies overnights and he can't wear pampers (I know they make a 7) b/c they give him a rash. Any thoughts?

I dont have experience with this, but I have heard good things about the diaper doublers, a pad that you put into the diaper for extra absorbtion. But I would try the plastic underwear over the diaper as well.

How old is he?

My only concern about putting a vinyl cover over his diaper would be how horrible of diaper rash he would get from it being so moist and wet.
