Re: lasik eye surgery?

I know 2 people who have done it and they both are happy with the results.
I dont know anything about the cost, but one person had a payment plan.

I do know that it makes your eyes really red for several days, and your vision is blurry at first.

Re: lasik eye surgery?

My brother had this done, and as the PP said, his eyes were red for about a week or two, and his vision took a little while to be "perfect". He also said he saw "halos" around lights at night for a few weeks after the surgery. Aside from all of that, he said it was definately worth it! He also financed...I think at 0% if I'm not mistaken. I COULD be wrong about that, though!

DH is thinking of doing it also.

Re: lasik eye surgery?

I had it done 8 years ago. My eyes were not red at all after the surgery and I usually have a lot of problems with allergies and my eyes. I'm so glad I did it but now my vision is changing, so I got glasses about 6 months ago for the first time since my surgery.

DH had it done, too, but his eyes were not as bad as mine were to start with. I keep saying he just wanted to be like Tiger Woods.

Re: lasik eye surgery?

I had it done in 2002. I could see perfect the next morning. I had no red eyes or any other side effects. I'm so happy I did it.

ETA: I had horrible night blindness before I had it done and after I can see great at night too. I describe it as going from always seeing things thru a dirty window to now seeing things thru a freshly washed window. The colors I see now are amazing compared to my poor eyesight before.Chat Icon Chat Icon

I was told that you have to wait until your Rx did not change anymore - Mine has just leveled out over the past 4 years - so I guess I'm ready.

I know a few people that have had it and all are happy (one even had it done in tijuana!) one had it covered by her insurance!

If I were to do it - and please people, tell me it's not bad with your eyes open! - I would put the money in a flex cafeteria plan at work and at least it would be tax deductable

Re: lasik eye surgery?

I had it done about a year ago and it was the best thing I ever did. My eyes aren't 20/20 though they are 20/40 and they were going to do the adjustment on me but I'm pregnant and they can't do it on you if you are. Also if you plan on getting pregnant within a certain time of getting it done they won't do it because it could effect the correction. I did flex spending for $2500 and the rest I put on an interest free medicial credit card taht I got through the eye place. I went to Stahl Eye Center in Garden City and it cost me $3600. The procedure is really quick and I could see later on that day without any glasses. I had it done on a Friday and by Sunday was having people over for football.
Let me know if you have any questions.

I know a few people who have had it done and love it. I am practically blind without contacts so I made an appt for a consultation in 2 weeks and my insurance covers 25% of the cost. I have heard it is approximately $4000 but most places offer payment plans.

Re: lasik eye surgery?

My husband had it done in 2001 or 2002. Don't remember.

His only complaint around 6-7 years later is although he still sees 20/20 without any help, he feels he doesn't see things as clearly as he did after the surgery. The dr's stated he could go back and have the surgery again, but he said once was enough and he doesn't want his eye cut open again.

Re: lasik eye surgery?

DH did this more than 5 years ago and said it was the best money he ever spent.

If you're a candidate, I would highly recommend going to a reputable doctor who will also monitor you before and after the surgery.

Don't forget to take advantage of the flex program! You can easily save 1/3 off the cost if you plan in advance this way...

Wish I could do it but my RX is still chanigng...

Good luck!
