Lasik.... a bunch of questions..

I'm sure there are a bunch of topics about this- but I'm thinking it's time for me to do this- i'm 31 and I'm over wearing my contacts all the time.
I know I am a candidate- so I should do it now b/f I get older and need to wear reading glasses... ha.

anyway- want to know about what doctors are good (li/NYC or Northern NJ), how much I should expect to spend realistically, pain, recovery, etc..

thanks in advance!!!

Re: Lasik.... a bunch of questions..

DH had it done a month before our wedding and said it was one of the best things he ever did.

You need to be sponsored by a regular eye doctor, he went to Dr. Nappi I believe, in Manhasset. He works with TLC Eye in Garden City, the same parking area by Roosevelt Field. Tiger Woods had his Lasik done there.

It cost $5800 and he was in and out of the procedure in about 2 hours. The actual procedure only takes a few minutes, but there's prep time and recovery.

DH had to wear patches over his eyes on the way home and had to sleep for at least 4-6 hours, I think. He ended up sleeping the rest of the day and night.
He wasn't in pain, but the ride home was bad for him because it was so sunny and the brightness is magnified hundreds of times for him, so it was very uncomfortable.

He had to go back the following day, he drove himself! Then a week later, a month later, 6 months, a year and now just yearly. He has had no problems with it at all.

God Luck!

Re: Lasik.... a bunch of questions..

I had it done last summer... i went to Dr. Bascilice in Setauket... it is called the Opthamlic Center... a few girls on here have been to him.. he was awesome... it was the best thing i ever did.... if you do a search there are a ton of threads on here about Lasik...

Just as Gina said, the procedure was quick.... you go home with goggles on, are told to sleep, then you wake up and can drive yourself to the next day appt!

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask!

I love that I can see the alarm clock, see my feet in the shower and can watch TV at night while im laying in bed and not worry about falling asleep in contacts or those stupid glasses poking the side of my head... Chat Icon

I think i paid maybe $4k for both eyes... i forget though... i got a teacher discount and they have a great plan where you can have no intrest for a year and just make monthly payments...

Re: Lasik.... a bunch of questions..

I worked at Stahl Eye Center in Garden City. 1-888-55-SIGHT. They also have offices in NYC and Hauppauge. I have no problems recommending them or their services. They do all types of eye surgery depending on your vision. Their prices ranged (when I worked there) from $900 per eye to $1750 per eye. They do free consultations. Most people had surgery, go home, slept for a little while and resume normal activities a day or two later, just no swimming.

Everyone is different. My advice to everyone is meet with multiple doctors from different practices. Go with who you are comfortable with.

Re: Lasik.... a bunch of questions..

I just had LASIK surgery in January.

I did not need to be sponsored by a regular eye doctor. I had my eye surgery done at Diamondvision. They have offices in Manhattan, Garden City and Connecticut.

I paid $2600 for both eyes with custom view.

The discomfort only lasted for one night. After the surgery I went home used my eye drops and rested my eyes. By the next morning I was fine. I had 20/20 vision and was even able to drive my car.

You can go to diamandvision's website and get answers to a lot of your questions.

Re: Lasik.... a bunch of questions..

my prescription was -3.75 on each eye. I could not even get dressed, comb my hair or put on make up in the morning without my corrective lenses.
