Thankfully, I stopped drinking coffee during my IVF cycles...so the only caffeine I have is an occasional coke.

I drink my one - two cups daily and am nine months pg. It is the only caffeine I drink during the day, and my dr said it was ok.

Chat Icon This make me so sad. I hope my one cup of tea a day is not what caused my m/c. I guess next time I can totally cut it out... I hate finding new reasons to blame myself. Chat Icon

I was curious how much caffeine was in my morning coffee and found this useful database.

Looks like my half-caf grande latte is still in the clear.

Wow - that is scary. I completely cut it out (cold turkey) the day I found out I was pregnant.

I got migraines for 2 days, and was dying for a cup, but it is worth it to me. I do have coke from time to time, but that's it.

Please don't blame yourself. I don't think tea has as much caffeine as coffee, and a lot of doctors say 1 cup is fine.

I am so sorry for your loss. Chat Icon Chat Icon

I went from 4-6 cups before being PG to 2 while I was PG. My dr told me 2 cups would be ok but not to have more then that.

Re: Just heard about this new study on Good Morning America and thought I'd pass on the link...

I think there are holes in that study and I think some of the information is misleading and inconclusive. The article goes back and forth with conflicting information.

I miscarried and my caffeine had been zero. It is my firm belief that it had to do with something that just wasn't right. I think there are too many factors involved to be able to attribute m/c's to one particular thing. Maybe a combination of things.

After reading THIS particular line:

"The study also failed to identify whether genetic factors were to blame for some of the participants' miscarriages.

'The coup de grace is that they did not look at whether or not the miscarriages were normal chromosomally, meaning that they were caused by some sort of 'toxin' "

...the lightbulb in my head said "AHA! Inconclusive."

There are multiple reasons why women miscarry. More often than not, they are genetic or chromosomal issues. I would hate to see a woman blame herself for her own miscarriage based on drinking one cup of coffee a day. And believe me, I also second guessed everything I did. I wanted a reason as to why this happened. It took a very long time to make peace with.

Re: Just heard about this new study on Good Morning America and thought I'd pass on the link...

I stopped caffine back last Feb because I knew I wanted to TTC

I've always heard this and believed it. Old wives tale or something. My american indian grandma made it clear to be well before she died what the yeahs and nahs of pregnancy were. Its something all girls are taught.

No caffine, including chocolate, coke and non decaf tea. You can have a cup of tea say once a week but that's it.

Lots of other stuff she taught me too. Most comes down to being aware that you need to remember you are what you eat and so is your child. An untested human like your child needs a good start and that means you must sacrifice for it's better life.

All that being said..... we also learn mother nature is fickle, beautiful, crazy, breathtaking, jealous and unpredictiable. No one can always know why you miscarry. No one can say you will have a baby at all or a healthy one. Only nature has that power and we are only along for the ride.

Which is why I am terrified I'm pregnant. heh
