My Aunt and cousin highly reccommended Heart Shaped Box by Joe Hill.

I just started it-but so far, so good.

Re: ISO of some GOOD horror/mystery summer reading!

THE single most horrific book I've ever read was American Psycho - Brett Waston Ellis.

I finished it and I have no idea how, because the whole book disgusted me.

If you really want a horror story - that's a good one.

Second most horrific book - In Cold Blood - Truman Capote. I read it when I was in HS...

Re: ISO of some GOOD horror/mystery summer reading!

i just suggested on another thread, but i love mIchael connelly books. he's all mystery crime novels..usually with the same detective although some vary from that.

he has a new book out THE SCARECROW which i have to order.

The Stranger BEside me by Ann RUle is true crime. its about Ted Bundy and how she worked with him and was his friend before she knew he was The Ted everyone was looking for. great book.

I always liked The Descent by Jeff Long. Its the book that that really bad horror movie was made from a few years ago. The movie was nothing like the book (as usual) and didn't do it justice.

It scared the living crap out of me

A good mystery is In The Woods by Tana French. She has another book that just came out with some of the same characters from ITW called The Likeness.

This one is on my pile- can't wait to begin it!

I liked the Agent Pendergast books by Preston and Childs. Also the Dr. Delaware books by Jonathan Kellerman.

As a HUGE Stephen King fan, I always suggest The Dark Tower Series to people. There are 7 rather long books and so good! (IMO)

I second Jonathan Kellerman for some wonderfully written detective & crime solving stories each with a psychological aspect to the mystery.

I realize that audio CDs aren't "reading", but I just had them read to me a few months ago. It's a great way to commute to work. Right now I'm listening to Gerald's Game (I read the book years ago, but I forgot a lot of details). That is scary book because it's right on the edge of something that could easily happen... Oh my God. Gerald's Game by Stephen King freaked me out for years!!!
I still get chills thinking about it.
Definite good one if you want scary!! More realistic scary than most King novels too...
