Is your wireless internet secured?
Can anyone hack into your wireless internet? Do you know if yours is secured by either WEP or WPA or not at all.
Just checked out my near by neighbors in the apartment complex I live in and I noticed that we have 8 people that are wireless and 2 or WEP and 3 have WPA and 2 have no encryption at all.

yeah, we're in an apartment building and there are several unsecured networks here.
I think it's becuase less techno-savy people set the wireless up, and couldn't figure out how to encrypt......
I must confess that years ago (first generation wireless network) it took me a week to set-up my encryption  it was FAR from being user friendly. The new generation is a snap, though.... but then again, there are a lot of people uncomfy with even downloading drivers......

WPA, SSID is changed, and I have it locked down to only the MAC address of my only laptop. Even if someone hacked the WPA and figured out the SSID, they would have to get around the MAC address block.
Can *anyone* hack in? No. Can *someone* hack in. Definitely. People hack into the CIA and major corporations, so it's possible to get into mine. The amount of effort needed just to tap into my personal PC and/or network connection just isn't worth it....

Yes - I have the same.
I think for the general public there is a lot more risk in other areas; securing wireless is a low risk. I would hope that most people would not be transmitting sensitive data, unless over a SSL tunnel, and that's a challenge to crack in itself.
The number of people that don't install security patches, don't run virus software, that don't change administrator passwords, and do answer phishing emails is staggering.
I think those risks are higher than the chance that someone decides to hack possible unencrypted data over wireless...

what he said...
filter by mac is very simple..pda's can connect, phones, laptops, gaming systems..
if someone wanted to they will hack you but the chances are really slim...

On the other side of the coin, if you tap into an unsecured internet connection, the owner of that connection has a relatively easy way to get into your PC if it's not secured.
I often tell my coworkers that the "free" wireless connection they tap into at home may be costing them a lot if they aren't careful...

Secured. When I was moving around a bit and didn't feel like setting up my own internet I would tap into other connections to check my email. Where I live they charge for how much bandwidth you use so I would download programmes so I wouldn't use my bandwidth. I was young and poor.
