Is my 4 week old eating TOO much?

He is getting 36 ounces a day - sometimes more.

The kid is ALWAYS hungry.

Wondering if I should call the ped and ask him - I remember there being a limit to how much formula they should get a day.

Unless he is spitting up, I say no.

It seems like a lot, but he must need it or he wouldn't take it in-at least that is my two cents.

DD ate a ton in the beginning and slowly is cut down as the growth spurts slowed as well.

I thought the limit is 40oz a day, but not 100% sure. I think as long as its under that you are fine!

That sounds normal, as long as he's not spitting up and you're not force-feeding him Chat Icon

James ate about that in the beginning as well. He's now eating about 42 oz a day and he's 9 weeks. This kid just has a MAJOR appetite! Chat Icon

Re: Is my 4 week old eating TOO much?

I just searched my posts on Jack from when he was born (Thank god for LIF) and saw that my ped started him on cereal at 5 weeks because he was drinking so much formula also.

I just put a call in to my ped.

My boys are always hungry - just like their mama (if only Jack stayed that way! Chat Icon)

i say if he's hungry feed him. i asked my dr about it and he said all babies are different and just continue to feed on demand. he'll eat what he can and he'll let you know when he's had enough so thats the route ive been taking. my DS eats 4oz every 2-3 hours and hes 5 wks today.
