Sure, why not?

I wouldn't even cut them into tiny pieces, I'd just cut them down the middle in quarters

I think so...DS was eating them that way at that age. It's jsut now that I started giving bigger pieces...not sure why...he could handle it but I guess I couldn't Chat Icon

Re: Is it safe to feed a 17 month old....

I'm a worry wart...Our Nutritionist for Noah said Hotdog pieces are the number 1 Choking hazard for kids under age 3 ( followed by peanuts, chewy fruit snacks and lollipops) ...she doesnt reccomend them till then and our ped actually doesnt recomend any of the above till age 4!

That said I do give Noah hot dogs b/c it's one of the few foods he will eat...but I cut them into itsy bitsy pieces ( at least quarters) Chat Icon

For me, the extra work is worth it knowing what I do, I couldnt even take a risk or chance ..

So my opinion is yes but I would cut it up very small.

Yea we've tried almost every meat with Kaydyn since she is on a meat strike right now. We cut it up small and even then she didn't like them.....we'll try again in a few months (she is 19 months)

DS has had hot dogs since 10 months as well, cut into tiny pieces - i cut them in rounds, then into quarters.

I would cut the inside out. I think the skin is the part that is a choking hazard.

my DD has been eatting them for about 2 months. We cut them in sliices and then halve it. She hates the outside (even skinless ones) so we have to take off the outside anyway.Chat Icon

She says hot dogs so cute...even points to the BBQ and says Hot DogsChat Icon

Re: Is it safe to feed a 17 month old....

We give Lily hot dogs all the time...and have been since she was about a year old.
She's not a big eater, but hot dogs were one of the things she would request by name, so I wasn't about to say no!
And, in typical Lily fashion...she used to refuse to let us cut them up for her, so we had to give them to her whole....but she's always been a great chewer, so we've never had a problem!

Re: Is it safe to feed a 17 month old....

Nina has been eating hot dogs since about 11 months old. They are her absolute favorite food. She actually eats two as a meal. I give her the organic hot dogs from Natures Promise, because they don't have added nitrates.

I just cut them down the middle.
