Is it ok to ask the salary at the interview?
I know for non-teaching jobs it's ok. But is it ok to ask when you go in, or should you wait until they offer you the position?

i wouldnt ask either. besides its not negotiable since its always done on a scale. Also, since teaching jobs are so hard to come by on Long Island, does salary really matter????? 
When I did go for the catholic school interview she came out and told me the roundabout.

I would not ask, esp. since it's non-negotiable anyway (unless you're at a private school, but even then, I wouldn't).

Most schools are about the same (within 10 thousand) so I wouldn't ask.

i didn't know the salary of the school i work for until after I met w/ the superintendent and was offered the job! I don't think its ever ok to ask - even in the business world!

I wouldn't ask during an interview. They tell you when they offer you the job, and based on that (and other factors) you can decide if you want to accept the job or not.
Long Island schools have VERY different salary scales!

Really? I never heard it is not ok to ask in the business world? Especially when having to interview into the city, I never would have wasted my time on a position I had no intention of accepting.

I was offered jobs in two different school districts a few summers ago....there was a $14,000 difference between the two offers.

I honestly wouldn't ask. The way I look at it is, that it is tough enough to get a job so when you do, you should just take it and not ask about pay.

You can find out the salary schedule of any school on Long Island. I believe it is public information.
ETA: No, I wouldn't ask. I would just do some research first.

I wouldnt ask the salary, but you can contact the Union and ask to see a copy of the contract. Salaries are in it. And complete salary schedule is more important than just starting salary.
