Is it normal to have csection date 2 days prior to EDD

Just curious how they come about determining when they will do the csection. Is it based on availabilty of the hospital only? I am scheduled for the 12th and my due date is the 14th. My friend thought this was weird cuz her doc normall does it a week before her due date. Just curiousChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

i'm not going to pretend to 'know' or be an expert...but i'd think it would depend on your doc's surgery availability, the size of the baby (if the baby is getting too big - they would go earlier), hospital availability...etc...

Yes its about hospital availablity alot of the time. I was told by my Dr that her and the other OB (there are 2 OBs in the room for a c/s) do elective c/s on Fridays (I think thats what she said)

So she calls me and tells me I am all scheduled for 12/21/07...I say great my little one with have the same bday as its daddy (didnt know what we were having) My OB says, you dont want that everyone should have their own b-day ... I will call you back....within an hour she calls me back and says, we are doing it on Thursday (which was my EDD)...okay didnt matter to me either way! Chat Icon

ETA: also as a scheduled be prepared to get bumped for any emergency that might come through. I was first thing in the Am and didnt get bumped but a few of my friends got bumped hours due to emergency c/s that needed to be done first.

Also keep in mind that when a OB schedules your c/s has to do with the reason for the c/s...2nd time moms are often schedule 1-2 weeks before EDD so they dont go into labor, or if there is a medical reason they dont want the mother to labor, etc...I wasnt scheduled until my EDD because I was hoping to go on my own, but with a 10lb baby it just didnt happen so I elected for a c/s

It depends on Dr availability, OR availability, the hospital's policies, your Drs policy (some multi-Dr practices like to try & schedule when another Dr is free as well), and any other pending medical conditions that could affect a safe delivery.

I think it all depends on your dr. and they're schedule, that's all.

This was my experience as well.

2 days before EDD is really close, though. Ask them about it.
