Interesting Political Question for you all. Were you "Party-Trained?"

Not sure if there has ever been a discussion about this, but,

There was an interesting chat on the radio this morning on whether or not parents party-train (as in political party) their kids and whether or not it's a good thing.

Were you "party-trained?"

Do you think that it's a good/bad thing for a parent to do?

Nope. My dad is a staunch republican, my mom is democratic. I am in the middle.

My parents always voted Republican, so I supposed it kind of party-trained me.....But for the first time ever, I am leaning toward a Democrat this election. Still not sure......

Re: Interesting Political Question for you all. Were you "Party-Trained?"

My father was a Democrat, he recently switched parties, and my mother a Republican. I am a die hard Conservative, but a Barry Goldwater Conservative, not a religious right Conservative. All my political leanings are based on the Constitution, law, and History. They always challenged me when I brought up politics, so that I would be well informed.

Yes but it didn't work. They are Republicans and I would consider myself a very liberal democrat.

Well, politics was discussed daily in my home but there was no "brainwashing" per se to go with one party over another.

Then again, I've never been swayed by others around me. I've never been one to be undecided about my own beliefs.

Not really. They talked a little about it as I got older but I figured out my republican leanings on my own. We are all moderate republicans. My brother is a little more conservative.

Politics were never discussed in my home so I wasn't party-trained. My parents voted but they never told us which way they voted.

I didn't vote the same way and I won't discuss it.

Only now in my adulthood do I see that my Dad is a die hard democrat.

Politics were never really addressed in my house when I was growing up. I was influenced more by my teachers and reading.

No. We used to have debates at dinner and had different political views.

My father is much more conservative than I am. My mother has no opinion on politics.
