DH and I are def part of that group. We are going to VA in the spring to check out the area. If we like it then we are probably going to move within the next 1 or so.

This is why DH & I bought upstate. We can pay our mortgage and live comfortably on DH's income alone. Therefore, I can be a SAHM or work P/T from home once my little bean arrives in May.  I was surprised that there are tons on Long Islanders in Rockland and Southern Orange County upstate. I wanted to move down south, but DH loves the cold weather and snow. We made a deal...if he will shovel the snow, I would move upstate.

We just moved out of LI but only to NJ and where we moved is more expensive than what we were looking at on LI. SNIFF. But I really do love our new home.

whenever you think of leaving LI the 2 things you want are less traffic and cheaper housing.
well we also just moved from LI to the DC area and LI is considered affordable compared to here, and the traffic on LI is a cake walk compared to here. Makes me want to come back sometimes.

I grew up on LI but we bought in Putnam county a few months ago. We still spent quite a bit and the taxes are high but we did get more for our money- we could not have gotten what we have for the same amount on LI. And there is a lot less traffic. It is a different lifestyle but it suits me.

Oh how true this is!! GA here we come...God willing no issues at closing in 3 short weeks!  It's awesome to hear we're not alone!!
For them, the numbers add up like this: A Long Island couple with income of $100,000 wants to move to Daytona Beach. Florida as well as Georgia and the Carolinas are prime destinations for Long Islanders.

I saw a similar article a few weeks ago... Out of all the 'new' residents in Va, something like 40% are from the new york area.

They could have interviewed me and DH, written everything we said, and come up with the exact same article.
We're on the 5-7 year plan too. Buying a co-op now and hopefully selling it for a large profit 5-7 years from now to move out of NY. Where is the next question but we both love where my sister lives in GA. And we'd get to be neighbors with Sasha

Hope those 5-7 years go by faster! How oddly cool would it be to be neighbors? I plan on raising my kids the "NY" way, so having a NYer nearby will help!
