Infant Car Seat -Middle or Side?

What is the right way to put in the infant car seat? Does it go in the middle of the back seat or on one of the sides?

Thanks!

You should read your car handbook. Mine fits in the middle but it's suggested that I use the side.

Re: Infant Car Seat -Middle or Side?

I was wrong. I'm thinking after the infant carrier when the child is in the next seat that they say the passenger side.

Any car seat inspection place will tell you the safest place in on the passenger side.

That isn't true. When I got my DD's carseat inspected they said the middle was the safest unless you car manual specifically says to place it somewhere else.

I was told by people in law enforcement that middle was the safest because if car is in accident and gets hit on side - baby is not near door. I was told only if it didn't fit should it go on passenger side.

Re: Infant Car Seat -Middle or Side?

I think middle is better unless you have a car where that won't work-I have a sports car with bucket seats, and the manuals say that the baby seat has to go on the side.

Re: Infant Car Seat -Middle or Side?

In our childbirth class we were told the middle, although its not the law. If you have a big hump in your backseat then obviously it can't go in the middle.

that is only true if it's supposed to go there for YOUR particular car. i had mine installed by police and it goes on the right passenger side (nissan pathfinder 2003) not the middle.

my husband's car gets it in the middle.

check your handbook or have it inspected by a professional to know for sure--don't assume middle is best.

Re: Infant Car Seat -Middle or Side?

Does depend on the car. The middle is suppose to be the safest bc if you have a side impact accident. My manual (2004 GMC Envoy) however told us to install it on the passenger side bc the middle of the seat is not flat (slight hump). Plus our carseat has lever that tells you if the car seat is installed correctly. I had my brother, OOS Police Officer, install mine, so I know it is in properly.
