Re: Im so scared...did anyone else get high risk ultrasceen result??

I did...it came back 1 in 180-something...they said that the baby's head looked fine, but it was my bloodwork that came back high risk.

My DH and I decided against the amnio because we knew that no matter what the results, we were continuing the pregnancy. I did go for the AFP bloodwork a few weeks later, and everything came back perfectly fine.

It's a test that carries a HIGH percentage of false positives...of course the only way to know for sure all is okay is to do the amnio, and that is a very personal decision...

I know it's a scary feeling - I was a wreck until I talked to other people and found they had the same results...Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Remember that this test is only a screening and further tests need to be done. I know it's hard but try not to worry Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Mine was close for Downs, but just out of the high risk (1 in 215). When I asked what made me high risk, I was told my age, not the bloodwork or the measurements. Since the odds for my age are something like 1 in 85 or 1 in 100 pregnancies depending upon what you read, I figured my results were actually pretty good.

I would ask your doctor for more information as to what made you high risk, was it the bloodwork, measurements, or age? Also keep in mind that there are some false positive tests.

And here are some hugsChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Im so scared...did anyone else get high risk ultrasceen result??

At 20 wks, we were told that the baby *Might* have a cleft lip/palate. Also, she had cysts around her brain (apparently this is normal in development). These 2 factors combined with my age, they suggested an amnio. However, they weren't 100% about the lip, so they wanted us to come back that following Tuesday to check again. She was fine and no cleft lip (Thank God)!

Sometimes, these Dr.'s will tell you everything, which I disagree with! I think they want to cover themselves, but unless they're certain w/out a doubt, should just say "you need a few more tests as the baby is in a position we couldn't get what we needed".

Whatever your results are/were, please try not to drive yourself crazy. We looked on the internet- BIG MISTAKE!!! Many hugs to you and prayers for your little one! Chat Icon Chat Icon
