I'm really worried that my job is not going to "approve" my taking 3 months of maternity leave....

I started working for a big company in December and didn't let them know I was pregnant until I hit 5 months. I called up our leave department and found out I am entitled to 6 weeks maternity leave with short term disability and anything after that would be vacation days and/or Personal Leave, because I do not qualify for FMLA since I have not been here for a year. Now...I forwarded this information to my supervisors and they responded saying "we'll get back to you"because they needed to talk it over.

My concern is that they are going to ask me to come back after the 6 weeks, and I do not want to do that. I let my immediate supervisor know from the beginning I wanted to take 3 months off and she said it wouldn't be a problem..but now I think it's going to be. I also hope they don't ask me to "work from home" because that would be WAY too much..with this job and a new baby.

What to do???

Try not to stress until you know for sure, and then you can figure out what you can do. Was your immediate supe. on the call/e-mail when you asked for the 3-months? Do you have it in your offer letter/in writing that she "approved" it?

NYS will give you the 6 weeks. Most people I knew who took the full 3 months used up all their vaca./sick time &/or took the balance at no pay.????

HOpe they approve it for ya and there's no issues.

Unfortunately this was a verbal conversation we had when I announced I was pregnant. I didn't tell them when I was hired (superstitions).

I don't mind at all taking no pay or using vacation time...I just hope they approve it. That's the only type of leave that needs to be approved.

Fingers crossed.
