i'm depressed... (deal fell through in selling our place)

we accepted a first offer on our co-op that we put up for sale the end of may, about a week and a half ago. our lawyer drew up the contracts and mailed them to the buyers lawyer, who received them last thursday. well yesterday, we find out that the buyers decided not to buy. but the way it happened is the strangest thing...
all they did was call their REA and their lawyer and leave messages saying they were no longer interested in pursuing the deal. and their lawyer and their REA have not been able to get in touch with them since. it just makes no sense... nothing was being disputed between the lawyers about the contract, so there was nothing wrong there. if they had found another place in the interim, their lawyer would have known that. there was just no reasoning and now they've fallen off the face of the earth. meanwhile, we're back to square one. i'm so frustrated and so depressed

so sorry that happened to you Krista. it really does $uck...

but honestly, it happens ALOT in real estate. i just dont want you to think that there was something that you or your attorneys or REA's could've done differently. alot of buyers suffer from buyers remorse -- they freak out after they realize that they have just started the procedure to purchase something for hundreds of thousands of dollars. they just werent ready. chin up!

First, I want to say, my heart really goes out to you. This is a horrible experience, and one no one should go through, IMO.

But unfortunately, a lot of buyers do this, and it probably has little to do with your co-op, though it's hard to not take it personally. This happened to us three times before we finally had an offer that resulted in an executed contract. Most people had fishy excuses--frankly, I think they got cold feet for whatever reason. We also had countless offers where the people dropped off the face of the earth after making the offer, so eventhough we countered with each one, we never knew what the issue was. When we finally did get a serious couple who DID sign their contract, DH and I both did not count on them at all and figured they would flake out also.

I'm not writing this to scare you (our situation was unusual I think), but to let you know it does happen, and I understand how you feel. I think it's happening more often these days since it's a buyers market, and people who don't have to move have the luxury of being picky. I am sorry though, and hope you find your buyer very soon!!!

thanks for the words of advice, girls. i know it can happen... things even go wrong once the contracts are signed. i'm just kind of peeved because i feel like they went about it like a-holes (sorry, but i do) - they couldn't even return their agents or lawyers phone calls and give an explanation? it just seems shady... and something i would never think of doing. i understand cold feet, or something happening - but at least be an adult and return phone calls etc. you're screwing with people's lives, ya know.
i don't really take it personally about our place, because i don't think it had anything to do with it... i'm just sad because i was so excited and it seemed things were headed in the right direction, and now, here we are

I TOTALLY feel your pain. We had horrible experiences with Buyers doing the same thing to us in our selling process. It's really heart breaking. But it WILL happen for you guys.

we had 4 deals fall through before our buyer so hang in there!!

I know, there are a lot of people out there who can't bother with the quick phone call to say they are no longer interested, unfortunately. It's very frustrating.

You will find a buyer for your place!

sorry it happened to you. It happened to us twice and now we're just going to rent our co-op and see what the market is like in a year.
