If you plan of BFing

Are you bringing your pump to the hospital? They say to finish each session with 5 mins of pumping. Is this necessary in the beginning?

Re: If you plan of BFing

I didn't bring a pump and I don't think you need to. I think they are referring to the time after your milk comes in to help establish your supply.

I didn't pump like that at all and now, 364 days later I still have a great supply.

Re: If you plan of BFing

i was told not to pump until you have been BFing for 3 weeks, so that is what i plan on doing, unless i need to pump to relieve engorgement.

The hospital should have one. They lent it to me and I did not have to carry it home with all the other crap I got when I was thereChat Icon

I did this with DS. Introducing a bottle and the breast together so early can cause nipple confusion and latching problems. My milk took 3 days to really come in. I started the pumping after feedings arount the 3rd week so DH could feed him.

I didn't pump while I was at the hospital. Your milk usually doesn't come in right away. My milk came in the night I got home from the hospital.

I think I was told the same thing...but I never had an ample milk supply so pumping might help bring it in faster....
If its compact I say bring it, if not ask the LC at the hospital for her advice and if all else fails DH can bring it at another time.
