If you have a May 27th wedding to attend...
When would you start shopping for a dress? Is the first weekend in May too close for comfort? Should I start next weekend in case I need alterations?

I would start now - or as soon as possible. IMO, when you're not pressured to find something ASAP, that's when you're most likely to get something for a good price, and you're also able to look at several stores.
