If u work and have kids in School..i have a question

If your kids are in school and u work..do you just hire someone to be at house starting at 2:30-3pm? Is it hard to find someone to work those hours? Would the babysitter help the kids with there homework? Just looking into the future..as it seems like i will never be a SAHM.

I'm not at this point yet, but there are a lot of afterschool programs (some available directly at the school). You pay a monthly fee and then either pick your child up after work or they take a later bus home.

I'm hoping that DH and I will be able to balance our schedules so that one of us will be home when the bus gets there, but if not, this is our backup plan.

We did SCOPE- it's a morning and after noon program. My DD went there both morning (7:30) and late afternoon until I got her at 5:30.

It's an option and it's MUCH less than day care.

Im a SAHM now...but I faced this issue when I worked.

Many school districts have a SCOPE program. Which is before and after school care. Most of the time, depending upon the school district, the program is run at the childs school. You just drop off the child in the morning at school and pick them up in the evening. The 2 that I am familiar with offered a snack in the afternoon and the children did their homework before they could go play.

OR...

Many of the center based daycares offer before and after school care too. You drop your child off at the center in the morning. A bus takes them to school...and a bus brings them back to the center in the afternoon...

I currently watch a child before and after school. It works better for the parent b/c her DH works a rotating schedule and she doesnt always need care...

When I worked I adjusted my work schedule so I could put the kids on the bus in the morning. That way I only needed to worry about after school care....For me it was a matter of getting into work 15 minutes late. So instead of taking my lunch from 12-1 mine was 12:15-1:00.

When I worked f/t DS was in the aftercare program at his school. Their program ended at 6pm and they offered no vacation or summer care. Some districts offer both I hear. The price as $12 per day. A couple of the daycare centers were around $20-25 a day for their aftercare.

We use the afterschool program & the older kids do tend to help the younger ones with their homework.

When I was in HS, I had a job where I got the kids off of their bus, helped them with their homework & started dinner for them. If the mom went out after work, I was fine with staying late.

i agree with everyone else... i work at a school now ( no kids of my own yet), but our district has a great afterschool program that goes until i think 6. they help the kids with homework, have game time, etc.
a lot of daycare centers also offer afterschool care, too- and the school bus will drop them off right at the center.
this is a pretty common problem for working parents, so theres a lot of options- i'm sure you'll be able to work something out

My dd starts catholic school in September and they have a before care and after care as well - starts as early as 7:10 and I think you have to pick up by 5:30 or 6:00? Not sure since I'll be there before 4
